"The hosts sent a message the night before with all the information needed to arrive to our destination easily! The unit was so unique, overlooking the water with the sheep / horse farm behind the property. The compact kitchen had everything we needed for our stay. The blackout curtains let in some light but overall did a great job at blocking most! We would highly recommend anyone looking for a quiet stay near Hvammstangi."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Laugarbakki?
Given its small size, the best area to stay in Laugarbakki is the village centre itself.

Laugarbakki is a very small, quiet village, primarily known for its guesthouse and a few local amenities. It's situated near the Miðfjarðará river, famous for salmon fishing. The main road, Route 1 (the Ring Road), runs nearby, making it a convenient stop for travellers exploring Iceland's northern regions.

For travellers seeking a tranquil base for exploring the surrounding natural beauty, Laugarbakki is an excellent choice. It's superb for those who want to experience the quiet side of rural Iceland, with easy access to the Ring Road for day trips to places like the Vatnsnes Peninsula, known for its seal colonies, or the Hvítserkur rock formation.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will appreciate the calm surroundings and the opportunity for activities like fishing or simply enjoying the vast Icelandic landscape.
When is the best time to go to Laugarbakki?
The best time to go to Laugarbakki largely depends on your priorities, with the summer months (June to August) being ideal for outdoor activities and the winter months (September to April) offering the best chance to see the Northern Lights.

For those keen on exploring the natural beauty of the region, including hiking, fishing, and visiting nearby attractions like the Hvítserkur rock formation, June, July, and August provide the mildest weather and longest daylight hours. The roads are generally clear, and you can comfortably spend extended periods outdoors.

If witnessing the spectacular Northern Lights is high on your list, then the darker months from September to April are your best bet. While the weather can be colder and more unpredictable, the extended periods of darkness significantly increase your chances of seeing this natural phenomenon.
