Staff asking me to wait when my Uber is already there just to see if I took any drink from the fridge is a little weird. If I can pay you such an amount to stay in your hotel why you think I m interested in your drinks . I made it known to the receptionist that they have to device a way to check for it instead of asking someone to wait until you confirm a drink in the fridge.

I used to love this property when it was the southern sun. But it has gone down. For $200 a night it is not worth it, there are far better hotels in this area. We were assigned a room and we could see a filthy back of a building, and could see people taking showers. We asked to be moved, the next room had broken sockets, looks nothing like the picture online. Everything worn out. Anyways we chose to stay as we were not spending much time in the room. One morning we ordered tea and coffee to the room and it took 40 minutes. Last night I ordered fish soup, they brought me chicken soup, I sent it back and it took in total almost 2 hours and I had to cancel it as it was late to eat. I had to call the duty manager as I saw under the bed, they had not cleaned under the bed for months, the dust, dirt and grime was unbelievable. I refused to move rooms as I saw this on the last night. I asked them to send a cleaner, they did their best but I advised them to deep clean that room once we left. At check out I was given a bill for an airport transfer when I had my own company driver. The whole experience was awful. I do not know what has happened since southern sun left. But they need to pay serious attention. I was so disappointed.

Very good
Staff are trained and couteous. Room is well cleaned and smells clean too. Overall i usually have a good time every time i am in Lagos for work. The only issue is the long wait for an order when dining in the room, please get more hands in the kitchen as it appears there are just a few people attending to over 200 guests

Dated rooms that need a refurb. They are adequate for a short stay, but if I was given this room in a 4* hotel in most other countries I would have complained.

Overall a good stay. Nice hotel, very convenient, reception, housekeeping and room service staff were very friendly/professional and the hotel has decent amenities. However what I feel lets them down is the restaurant staff and wi-fi! The staff in the restaurant are not attentive, they just walk around aimlessly whilst guests/visitors are waiting to be seated or want to order. The dinner buffet is very good though, breakfast not so much; the food was often cold and tasteless. I had major issues with connecting to the wifi which was very frustrating.

Bad Experience on my visit!
I have been staying at Southern Sun for the past 3years every time I visit Nigeria, this visit is by far the worst experience and I don’t know if I’ll return. TV Chanel’s were blurry, when I called I was told the person responsible was already gone for the day. The TV Chanel’s remained that way until I checked out 2days later. I ordered room service and when I tried to pay with my card I was told it was declined, I ended paying with cash, only to find out later that day the card charge (N10,200) went through. When I reported it to the receptionist and provided evidence of the charge that hit my bank acct I was told the accounts office would contact me and give me a refund, never heard back from them, even after I placed another call. Not sure what’s going on but it seems to be going down hill. Service used to be great!

Location and access to property once on Lagos Island is good. Breakfast is great. Front desk at check-in is horrible and most unprofessional. Delayed and confused check-in for tired travellers. Towels are tired, faded, and limp.

This hotel has a lovely reception area, the staff is great and their restaurant is excellent. It is however an old hotel and the wear and tear shows in the rooms. The bathrooms are badly in need of renovation.

The location of the property is very good. Some of the staff were very good some were disappointing. We find it disingenuous by the management the hotel to back on the previously agreed 2 days discount on our stay (following the problems with cockroaches) had been reduced to 1 day during check out.

Superb Hotel
Hotel is one of the best in Lagos! Service is soo great, all staff are friendly and willing to help. I forgot my laptop in reception, didn’t realise for 3 days and they kept it for me. Room is a bit small but still worth staying in this hotel and I’ll come again. The pool is nice and clean!

Hoped the hotel will be better maintained. Paid a bit more for an executive room and it was a bit tired; broken shower, worn furnishings. Decent breakfast and service but I’m not sure if the experience is good value.

This hotel is almost excellent, but is let down a little by small oversights - e.g. during my first stay, the telephone in my room was incredibly grubby, : obviously, a small thing, but an unnecessary oversight in a good hotel. That being said, that is only a small gripe : overall, the hotel is really excellent value, unlike many of the 4 and 5 star hotels in Lagos, the owners appear to have taken the very refreshing decision NOT to artificially inflate their rates to take advantage of the relatively limited selection of really good hotels available. The breakfast is excellent - with a huge selection, goes on until 10.30, and their Sunday brunch appears to be extremely popular. The staff are just about the nicest staff I have ever come across in any hotel - they are responsive, eager to help, always smiling, have apparently limitless amounts of patience and energy, they are really outstanding
