Poor value for what it is
This is an OK, slightly average hotel, but very overpriced for what it is. The surrounding "Kalevala park" is also frankly neglected, and has surely seen better days. The hotel is in a spectacular natural setting, but there are other signs of under-investment, such as the pier that is close to falling away into the lake. I'm not too fussy a traveller and wouldn't normally mind, but the value for money just isn't here in this case. And sauna -- which is usually open to all guests and included in the room rate at most Finnish hotels, and certainly all hotels in this price category -- is NOT included, as we very unpleasantly found out upon checking out. There was no posting anywhere in the hotel of such "rates" for the sauna, and the hotel staff even cheerfully offered us a sauna turn, without bothering to tell us of the very substantial charge to our bill that would result. That's the sort of behaviour that cannot be forgiven. The cracked, slightly run-down charms of the hotel are real, but the management is less than forthcoming with its guests -- and clearly more interested in fleecing them than investing in the property.

Hello, thank you very much for your feedback. You are right, our hotelbuilding is old and there is always something to do; either in the surroundings or inside the hotel . Few things we have improved after your comments - land on the side of the lake has been filled with stones, mud etc. - front side of the hotel is now under renovation. Evening sauna is always included for our guests, sauna is open evenings (summertime 17.00 - 18.00 and winter 16.00-18.00.) I apologize if you had other impression or someone of us mislead you. - we also get time to time requests for private sauna, and maybe our personel thought you were booking this type of sauna. The "Kalevala-Park" next to our hotel is another, privately owned company, for their business/renovation etc. we can´t give you any comments.

Hieman myös hmm...
Hotelli on komealla paikalla. Hieman jo kulahtuneisuutta. Näillä helteillä, ja muulloinkin, pieni jääkaappi huoneessa olisi paikallaan. Saunan aukiolo hieman kiusallinen, auki klo 18-20. Kuitenkin kun tulimme kierrokselta klo 21 maissa, joku pariskunta tuli ehkä saunasta, ainakin heillä oli kylpytakit yllään. Mutta oli hyvä herätä järveä ihaillen.

Hotelli on puhdas ja siisti. "Sisustus" jämähtänyt 80-luvulle ja kulahtanut. Hyviä elementtejä olisi ollut, omat kädet syyhysivät innosta alkaa järjestelemään sisustusta. Ruoka- annoksissa 10e liikaa hintaa, tien toiselta puolelta saa sensijaan loistavia burgereita. Palvelu oli pääasiassa hyvää, yhtä pientä epäkorrektiutta lukuunottamatta.

Worst experience ever
Though the hotel clerk was nice (they close 23 but let us in 23:15) this hotel must be the worst ever by Nordic standards. Its like a time travel to the early 90s. You can hear the neighbour breathe - thats how poorly isolated it is. But thats not the contributing factor to my 1 star. The reason is that it was a party in the neighbour room. The clerk asked them to be quiet and left - then after 30 minutes the party started again full blown. Drunk people in the hallway screaming, swearing and banging on the walls. And NO SECURITY. We could have been murdered in that hallway and noone would notice as it is not any security cameras. I travelled there with my 10 year old son and we could not sleep before 03-04 in the night. My son was of course uneasy because of this aggressive screaming in the hallway. We also of course missed breakfast because of that and slept till 11 even more tired than before we arrived. Totally overpriced hotel that should get competition from some cheap modern hotels. Its not that: I would gladly pay 200EUR for a Nordic Choice room and I expected this standard when I ordered the room. Will recommend everyone to choose another alternative - even camping - even sleeping in your car. The interior of the room and hotel is at best 2 star quality. And to end this disaster review - why the hell did the clerk give us a room right beside a party when he could see I have a 10 year old child with me??? Sick.

Mukava paikka
Mukava hiljainen paikka. Palvelutaso on hieman kapeampi kuin suurkaupunkien hotelleissa, mutta vastapainona on luonnon läheisyys joka on huikea! Hotelli itsessään perustasoa, mutta on persoonallinen positiivisessa mielessä. Jos olet pohjoiseen menossa, niin Kuhmo ja sen luonto kannattaa kokea matkalla!

Siisti ja rauhallinen paikka yöpyä.
Asiallinen hotelli. Ilmastointi lienee painovoimainen, sillä huoneen ilma voisi vaihtua vähän tehokkaammin. WC/suihkutilan toteutuksessa puutteita. Lavuaari on peilikaapin alla syvennyksessä ja ”necessary bag”ille ei ole missään laskutilaa.

Upea rakennus ja jännä tunnelma. Kuhmo on varmasti liikunta- ja luontomatkailijalle hieno paikka. Harmi että olin vain työmatkalla enkä ehtinyt nautiskelemaan. Aamiainen tosi hyvä ja palvelu nopeata ja mukavaa. Ainoa miinus oli huoneessamme leijaileva aivan käsittämättömän vahva hien haju sekoitettuna dödösprayhin. Eikä se kadonnut aamuunkaan mennessä. Huonetta olisi pitänyt tuulettaa ainakin päivän verran ikkunat auki. Meille ei olisi missään nimessä pitänyt antaa sitä huonetta.

Ruhe pur, Natur pur !
Weit weg von Hektik und Stress. Hotel im "Retro - Style". Einfach aber gemütlich. Schöne Terrasse mit Blick auf See. Und kaum zu glauben, mit eigenem Sandstrand. Feine Köstlichkeiten aus finnischer Küche.

Hotellet er fint og ligger dejligt. Der var meget varmt på værelset og ventilationssystemet virker ikke ordentligt. Det lugtede kraftigt af mad over hele hotellet, måske er det generelt at ventilationssystemet ikke virker.

Kalevala-hotelli on ihan omanlaisensa konsepti, koitoinen ja leppoisa. Palvelu on aina ollut huomaavasita ja hyvää. Ainoita miinuksia tällä kertaa siitä ettei tv:n kaikki kanavat toimineet ja hotellin wifi oli hidas ja kehno.

Parantamisen varaa huoneen tasoon löytyy
Meillä oli sviittihuoneisto. Sieltä puuttui alapään pesusuihku WC-pöntön läheisyydestä! Ehdottomasti oltava jokaisessa hotellihuoneessa! Minibaari kuuluisi ainakin sviitissä olla! Sänky oli vaihdettu huonompaan ja pienempään, edellisen kerran vierailimme juhannuksena 2017 ja silloin olimme tyytyväisiä isoon ja tilavaan sänkyyn ja sen patja oli erinomainen, olimme silloin kaksi yötä hotellissa!

Ihan sinänsä ok hotelli Kuhmossa.
Huoneet oli "suursiivottu" ja niissä oli varsin kova desinfiointiaineen tuoksu. Otin kolmannen minulle tarjotun huoneen. Sielläkin haisi, mutta menetteli. Hotellin henkilökunta ymmärsi vivani hajujen suhteen ja toimi varsin asiallisesti.

Tres bel hôtel au bord d'un lac magnifique. Tres bel environnement, très calme et reposant. Personnel tres sympathique et accueillant. Le restaurant de l'hôtel est par ailleurs bon. Hôtel parfait pour se ressourcer.
