Our favourite part by far are the trees the fruit bats call home; listen, and look up – you'll ear them chattering, and see them hanging upside down with their furry bodies turned to the sun, every so often you'll see one or two stretch their wings, or even fly from one roost to another. These bats, unlike most bats, fly by sight not radar – something I didn't know until I visited this most beautiful park. #localsecrets

It is a symbol of identity in Kandyan Architecture. In the olden days, the king would stand there to address his citizens who were gathered in front of him. The golden roof behind stands over the Buddha tooth relic that this temple is famous for.
