"For the price I was not expecting much. I just need aircon, and a comfy bed. I was very pleasantly surprised with this hotel. The food in the restaurant was good, the service friendly. Really good aircon, good plumbing (a rarity in India?), and the most comfortable bed I had in India. I would definitely return to this hotel. "

Frequently asked questions

What can a history buff expect from a stay in Kolkata?
On holiday in Kolkata, history seekers may want to plan a visit to the monuments. While you're visiting this culturally rich area, why not also take some time enjoying all there is to see and do?
How many historically relevant hotels are located in Kolkata?
Kolkata is home to 947 hotels and other lodging options bookable on Expedia but not many designated as historic hotels.
What are the most important historical sites and other places in Kolkata?
Kolkata is notable for its monuments and landmarks like Missionaries of Charity's Mother House, Howrah Bridge and Fort William. Cultural venues include Victoria Memorial, Science City and Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture. A couple of additional sights to add to your itinerary are Nakhoda Masjid and New Market.
What is a historic hotel like in Kolkata?
A historic hotel gives guests a chance to stay in a place that's been officially recognised with a national historic designation. Historic hotels throughout the world have had many former lives and uses, such as palaces, castles, stately homes or even lodges, pubs or skyscrapers — any building that's been identified as being of special interest. These types of hotels in Kolkata often preserve original elements such as period features or traditional architecture in guestrooms or communal spaces.
What is the difference between a historic hotel and a heritage hotel?
The two are similar. "Historic hotel" is more commonly used in the U.S., while "heritage hotel" is often used in Asia and Europe. Historic hotels tend to place more significance on the architecture and building. A heritage hotel draws meaning mainly from the place's cultural value and how it influenced the community.
Do historic hotels in Kolkata have modern facilities?
Yes, every effort is made to preserve the historic aspects and traditions, but hotel interiors are fitted with modern conveniences and safety features. Visitors can expect the amenities you'd get from a hotel such as private rooms with updated bathroom facilities, heating and air conditioning, and free and fast Internet. When you book a historic hotel in Kolkata, it doesn't mean you're choosing a place that's rundown.
