Great location, Yllas is a wonderful place and the surrounding villages are lovely. Akaslompolo is a charming village with a few things to do.
Lapland Hotel Saaga is reasonably ok, but the customer service we experienced was unhelpful and not very friendly. We arrived and our kids just wanted to swim so we asked about the pool, only to be told we couldn't use the spa or pool unless we paid an additional €150 because we were chalet and not hotel guests, which was not advertised on the Saaga website or on Hotels.com.
They refused to waive the nonsense charge even though the staff acknowledged it was not clear and the cost would stand. Luckily, Hotels.com stepped up and covered the cost (issue was dealt with very well by Hotels.com thank you). So, all in all it worked out ok thanks to Hotels.com but it left a slightly sour taste against the hotel for us. We wouldn't stay there again and couldn't recommend in good conscience.
We'd definitely return to the area and Lapland is wonderful, we'd stay at one of the charming cabins or smaller hotels nearby. If you're not bothered about skiing then there is no real reason to stay at this hotel.
Akaslompolo has lots going on and has sweet looking places to stay and eat, so that'd be our preferred location for next time.
Shame for the hotel really, the issue could've been avoided and managed much better by providing clear information upon booking so we knew what to expect.
We had a fantastic time there regardless.
