Going to a botanical garden in the middle of winter isn't exactly something to look forward to but I did find pleasant surprises here. The Makino Botanical Garden in Kochi in Shikoku Japan is actual a side trip next to the Chikurin-ji temple, one of the 88 pilgrimage sites. Other than that, there is the famous Kochi castle in this city. It turns out to be the highlight for me on that rainy day though as I surprised myself with amazingly clear picture of flowers on the iPhone especially in the greenhouse! No strong sunlight to distract!
