Home from home to come back to after a day spent exploring the Island.

Home from home to come back to after a day spent exploring the Island.

8/10 Good
"This was a comfortable and clean property which suited our needs for the week. It was well supplied and had everything that was needed. However we felt it would benefit from much sharper knives and the fridge seemed to have a lot of water in the bottom. We could also feel some of the springs in the mattresses. Callum was delightful, met us as we pulled in the drive, despite the it being late, and couldn’t have been more helpful in showing us around the property and highlighting the main/best areas to go on the island. The location was good and we particularly enjoyed the closeness to the beach which we accessed several times. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the property."

10/10 Excellent
"A very lovely and comfortable cottage with great access to the spectacular coast nearby. 21 Habost has been very stylishly and thoughtfully fitted out, and provided everything we needed for our stay on Lewis. It’s easy to get to the lighthouse at the Butt of Lewis, to the beautiful white sands of nearby beaches and the very picturesque harbour at Port of Ness. Donald was a super responsive and friendly host, proactively making sure to check in that everything was ok. We would recommend a stay here to explore the island in a heartbeat."

"Beautifully decorated and spacious. Perfect spot to end our day. So many amazing nearby beaches and easy access to Stornoway. Not a lot of restaurants open in the evenings locally, so you'll need to cook or head to Stornoway."

"Very thoughtfully appointed guest cottage, with lots of little extras (like several flavors of tea, and even suggested itineraries and points of interest), will feel like your own little home on the island."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Knockaird?
The best area to stay in Knockaird is the village centre, particularly around the High Street. This area is the heart of Knockaird, offering a convenient base for exploring. High Street is lined with traditional stone buildings housing local shops, cafes, and restaurants. It's very walkable and provides easy access to the scenic harbour and the Knockaird Heritage Centre.Couples will find the village centre an excellent choice for a relaxing break. The proximity to the harbour means romantic strolls along the waterfront are easily arranged, and many of the local eateries offer fine dining experiences with views of the sea. There are also several small galleries and craft shops to explore together. For travellers looking for a peaceful and well-appointed stay, the areas just off High Street, such as those leading towards the lighthouse, offer a good selection of boutique hotels and guesthouses.
When is the best time to go to Knockaird?
The best time to go to Knockaird is during the late spring and summer months, from May to September, for the most pleasant weather and longest daylight hours.During this period, you'll experience milder temperatures, typically ranging from 12°C to 18°C, and significantly less rainfall compared to the rest of the year. This makes it ideal for exploring the stunning coastal paths, enjoying boat trips, and visiting local attractions without the chill and dampness. The extended daylight, especially around the summer solstice in June, means you have more time to sightsee and enjoy the evenings. For those interested in outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, or wildlife watching, late spring and early summer (May and June) are particularly good. The landscapes are lush, and it's a prime time for spotting local birdlife and marine animals. The weather is generally more settled, offering clearer views of the dramatic Scottish scenery. If you prefer a quieter experience and don't mind slightly cooler temperatures, early autumn (September) can also be a wonderful time to visit. The crowds thin out, and the changing colours of the landscape are beautiful.
