Famous for Mother Shipton’s Cave and Petrifying Well, Knaresborough boasts an interesting castle, painted by JMW Turner, perched high on the cliff top. Stroll along the riverside promenade, relax with an ice cream or hire a boat and spend an afternoon ‘messing about on the river’! Just upstream visit Nidd Gorge, a great place for walks and wildlife watching. Explore the elegant spa town of Harrogate, 4 miles, with its Royal Pump Room, restored Turkish baths, theatre, wonderful shops and tearooms (with Betty’s heading the list).
