Historic Cabin inside Kings Canyon National Park
Welcome to the Knotty Cabin! This is a unique opportunity to stay in a privately-owned cabin in the Grant Grove section of Kings Canyon National Park. The historical community of Wilsonia was established in 1918 and is just minutes away from the General Grant Tree.
The Knotty Cabin was built in 1923. It has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It was recently updated with many modern conveniences while retaining its rustic, historical feel. Step back in time and enjoy the slow pace of cabin life.
Guest have access to all spaces except the garage.
You can reach me anytime with any questions or concerns.
The cabin is in walking distance of the Kings Canyon National Park Visitor Center, the gift shop, grocery store, restaurant and the General Grant Tree (The Nation's Christmas Tree). Hume Lake is about 20 minutes away. Other attractions nearby include Big Stump Meadow, Boole Tree, Converse Basin, and Panoramic Point, among others.
The grocery store at Grant Grove has a limited selection. It is best to bring your own food.
There is no gas station in Grant Grove. Plan accordingly.
Please note, the stairs to the second floor are quite steep and narrow. We recommend using the handrails and taking extra care while going up or down. There are some charming, yet uneven, rock paths around the cabin, as well as steps outside each exterior door. We encourage you to move carefully while you enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Our cabin boasts central heat, easily controlled with a Nest thermostat, so you can stay warm and cozy no matter the cold weather outside.
We’re excited to offer Starlink, providing unlimited high-speed internet during your stay!
We have 2 Roku Smart TVs, one upstairs (40 inch) in the TV room and one downstairs (32 inch) in the living room.
During the winter season (October-May), snow is common, so be sure to carry chains. If the driveway gets snowed in, feel free to park in the lot just past the cabin on Park Road. Please back in perpendicular and leave your phone number in case the snowplow needs to contact you.
Wilsonia doesn’t have trash service during the winter months (late October - early May). We kindly ask that you take your trash with you when you depart. You can drop it off at the dumpsters located in the Azalea Campground or the Big Stump parking lot or in the trash cans at the Grant Grove Visitors Center.
To ensure we have enough towels and amenities for everyone, please make sure all guests are included in your reservation. Our cabin has sleeping space for up to 7 guests, so we kindly ask that you don’t exceed that number. This helps us provide a comfortable and enjoyable stay for everyone.

We had such a wonderful time at the cabin. It is very comfortable and clean and very well stocked with kitchen appliances and bathroom necessities. I would absolutely recommend the Knotty Cabin and look forward to planning another visit myself!!
Knotty cabin was the perfect place for our visit to the national parks. It is the most well equipped vrbo we have ever stayed in. It is a lovely, homey cabin in a beautiful, central location. HIGHLY recommend!
The cabin was as depicted in the pictures. Was clean and had everything we needed. This is a great location: inside the park boundaries, quiet area, about halfway between Sequoia and the Cedar Grove area of Kings Canyon. Communication with the owner was great.
We loved our stay! Heather was an amazing and communicative host. The cabin was clean and well appointed, with everything we would need, and with plenty of room for us (3 in total). The cabin is located close to Grant Grove Village, and easy to get in and out! We loved our stay!!
This is definitely a one-of-a-kind property located inside the King's Canyon National Park. Despite its rustic, historic charm, the cabin has been updated to include modern amenities to ensure guests are comfortable. The property is thoughtfully well-appointed and equipped with all that you need for a comfortable stay. Heather was an excellent host and was helpful and communicative throughout the entire process.
We had a wonderful week at the Knotty Cabin. Location was fantastic, interior beautiful and so many nice touches inside. Stairs to upstairs are really steep - just something to make sure that kids and older folks are especially careful with, but there are great handrails and everyone navigated it well quickly. Outdoor beverage fridge is a great touch to the beautiful porch. We had a great time and loved returning to this area after about 20 years. Thank you Heather for such a lovely stay!! Can’t wait to come again.
We loved our stay at the Knotty Cabin. I don't think I've ever stayed at a short-term rental that had been so carefully arranged to maximize the fun and limit the confusion. Everything was perfect and spotless, from the gate at the bottom of the stairs to having cupboard space for the food we brought to the beautiful outdoor patio to the bunks on the balcony. We took a day trip to Sequoia and did a drive through Kings Canyon, and also enjoyed a day just walking over to the village and Grant's Grove. This accommodation gets my highest recommendation.
My family had a great time at Knotty Cabin. We were lucky to have fresh snow in time for our arrival and waking up to snow-covered trees right outside the window by our bed was heaven. The cabin is beautiful and clean, it looks just as pictured in the photos. The location is very convenient to the Kings Canyon Visitor Center and General Grant Tree. Heather is a quick and friendly communicator. We hope to come back in warmer weather to enjoy the outdoor bunk beds on the balcony.
We loved our time at the Knotty Cabin. I stayed with my husband and family who were visiting from Ireland. We loved the location in the park with lots of great hiking and running trails right on our doorstep. The cabin was cosy and had everything we needed and more. The only thing we wish we had known before we got up to King’s Canyon was that the grocery store up there is very limited. If you plan on cooking, which you likely will as there is only 1 restaurant option nearby, stop in Fresno on your way up and stock up on groceries.
