Things to see and do in Kilkee Kilkee is a small but vibrant coastal town on the west coast of Ireland, midway between Kilrush and Doonbeg. The town is popular as a seaside resort, surrounded by dramatic scenery and a range of outdoor and indoor activities.
The horseshoe bay is protected from the Atlantic Ocean by the Duggerna Reef. The crescent-shaped sandy beach in Kilkee is popular with holiday makers since Victorian times, it is an excellent spot for bathing and for family days out. The beach has a lifeguard on duty most weekends in June and every day during July and August.
Many benches overlook the pretty sandy beach at Kilkee, an ideal spot to people watch and enjoy a 99 sold by ice cream vans and nearby parlours.
To the west of the beach is the Kilkee Cliff Walk, which takes visitors past the Richard Harris memorial and offers some excellent views of the coastline.
As a popular tourist hotspot, Kilkee offers plenty of facilities such as traditional Irish pubs, restaurants serving delicious homecooked dishes and friendly cafes. Locally caught seafood is served in many of the pubs and restaurants in Kilkee town and beyond.
For those more inclement days, Kilkee Waterworld provides a great outing for the family. To the north of the beach is Kilkee WaterWorld, a great place to take children, particularly on a rainy day, whilst Kilkee Golf Club overlooks the bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The reefs around Kilkee are purported to be some of the best places for diving in the world.
Kilkee and the Loop Head Peninsula attract thousands of tourists annually. The stunning Wild Atlantic Way, with spectacular coastal scenery and beaches make Kilkee an ideal base for your next seaside holiday in Ireland.
Nevsail Watersports and Rock Climbing runs extreme sports and adventure activities, they are situated in the centre of the bay on the Promenade in Kilkee, next to the life guard hut.
Learn to dive at Kilkee Dive Centre or when the surf is up you can hire out equipment at the local surf and kayaking centre. And for a unique experience go snorkelling in the famous Pollock Holes at Diamond Rocks or jump off the pier – the famous diving boards are a great challenge! Things to do and see in County Clare From Moore Bay Holiday Village you can easily drive to many of top visitor attractions in County Clare and beyond. Kilkee is located on Loop Head and is marked by a prominent lighthouse. Along route visit the well-known villages of Cross, Kilbaha and Carrigaholt. Loop Head is also popular for dolphin and whale watching, there are many species of Cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoise) in Irish waters. Loop Head is a well-known spot for watching from shore and there is always a chance of seeing a fin or a blow from this headland.
Another top tourist attraction in Clare is the dramatic Cliffs of Moher, located at the southwestern edge of the Burren region. These well-known sea cliffs run for about 14 kilometres and are a 50-minute drive from our holiday accommodation in Clare. While there go sightseeing in the famous Burren, a uniquely rocky wilderness area, with sheltered Stone Age monuments and ancient churches.
Clare has numerous hiking and biking trails along the coast and inland through green lush countryside along the River Shannon.
