Enjoy your visit to the Big Island as a "resident"

A restful, peaceful and private guest cottage outfitted with everything needed and more. Located less than 30 minutes south of Hilo Airport, it is well-situated to enjoy all the offerings of the region, including the active volcano. For us, it served as home base while visiting family. We especially valued the owner's masterful wood carvings that helped give the cottage its uniquely Hawaiian vibe. We also appreciated the detailed guest guidelines intended to keep the ohana in its best condition and preserve it for enjoyment by others.

Fantastic

Wonderful location, fully equipped, every detail has been thought of. There is a beautiful area. I’ll talk where you can have a bath, which is so well set up and private.. We were so glad that we booked this place, zero regrets!!!!

Hawaiian getaway

This house was an absolite delight to stay in. The Hawaiian theme was so fun, the home was clean, and extremely well organized. They have the cutest outdoor areas to spend time hanging out in too. Also, the bed and pillows were the most comfortable i've ever slept on while on vacation! Would definitely recommend this property!

Highly recommended

Lovely cottage with Hawaiian motif. Quiet and secure. Scott was very responsive and even bought a steamer to help with our travel wrinkled clothes. We were attending a special event and were very appreciative. We had a great grilled breakfast on the patio of local eggs and vegetables. Would stay again!

Great Getaway

If you want to take a break, this is the place. Everything you need. A tranquil patio, outdoor tub if you want to spoil yourself. Quiet, clean, cool interior decor. We only spent one night but could have happily stayed longer. There is a town about 12 miles away with restaurants.

Amazing Rental - as advertised

This place was great! Looks just like the pictures. Very clean, well stocked with essentials and a comfy bed. The tub outside was wonderful, with plenty of bath products and privacy screens to pull down. Owners were very responsive and clear communicators. *This is a guest house on a fenced property, so the owners are near by for any issues. They were very respectful of our space which made the unit private. We would definitely recommend staying here!

Nice and private

At first, a bit tricky to find, especially at night in the rain. Google maps sends you in the wrong direction. But easy to find once you find it. Just go down Maku’u and take a right on 12th and it’s right there in the right side. Property is very nicely appointed. Chickens and other gorgeous birds visited every day. The covered patio is great for morning coffee and evening wine. With two ceiling fans, we never turned on the a/c My wife loves the tub.

Shangri La Found

Needed a respite from the insanity of life and the world and found it at Hale Hapu'u. The images are nothing compared to the reality of the house and the surrounding garden. The most beautiful and peaceful place we have ever stayed at and looking forward to staying at again. The house and grounds are immaculate and Scott has built a true homage to Hawai'i and the culture. The Hale Hapu'u is clean and comfortable and the outdoor "spa" tub was perfect! We enjoyed spending mornings having breakfast on the porch and listening to the sounds of nature around us. Quiet, comfortable, peaceful, soul nourishing. Absolutely loved it.

First-class retreat!

While this location may be off the beaten path, it was so worth it to find the peace and tranquility that surrounded us here! The pictures do not do this wonderful spot justice! The space was much bigger than it seemed. The craftsmanship, furnishings, and decor are top-notch. The hosts have thoughtfully labeled everything, which is so appreciated especially when arriving to a new spot after a long day! They also have made available so many extra items to make your stay feel like a luxurious retreat! A hidden gem! I will definitely be letting anyone I know coming to east Big Island!!

Hawaiian Paradise

The ohana was absolutely beautiful with original artwork and other decor that msde it feel like Hawaii inside and out. We loved the outdoor tub and everything in general was comfortable and well situated. No issues finding it, though I could see how it may be difficult to find in the dark, the owner's instructions are clear and pictures help guide you. Awesome smashburger stand just 8 minutes away. Highly recommend.

Unique guest house near Hilo

Amazing little guest house near Hilo! Hawaiian decorated with wood carved pieces. Every detail is thought of & home is very comfortable. Good location for everything around Hilo & Vocanos National Park.

This property is absolutely amazing!! Every little detail has been thought of. Very clean! Owner was very responsive to questions. I wish we had been able to enjoy all of the amenities but the erupting volcano kept us in the park. The outdoor tub with the lush surroundings …truly is paradise! 3 lovely nights at Scott and Tracy’s place. Decor was so cool. Frogs, birds and evening downpours were extra bonus. We loved our stay. Don’t miss out - use the bathtub!

Unique little gem

This place was great for 2 people and perfectly situated between Hilo and Volcano. Loved the decor and Hawaiian vibe! So comfortable and serene. And Scott was amazing at communicating! Would definitely recommend.

Simply Amazing

My wife and I enjoyed every bit of the home. The aura of the place is simply amazing! The directions were very clear (but make sure you read every line). My wife is a vegetarian and prefers home cooked meals on some days. Scott provided a grill with a side burner. It worked well for us. But remember that cooking and dish washing should be in the outside cabana/sitting area. But they have an outside sink in a covered area. The inside is simply amazing. Scott does carving with wood and stone. All the tiki carvings in photos were done by Scott. Outside hot tub is also a highlight! It was super convenient for our drive to volcanos national park!

Great tropical retreat

Hale Hapu’u was a wonderful retreat. Very clean, cozy, had most everything we needed, and we especially loved the lanai which is beautifully done and the perfect spot for eating, studying, and just spending time. We really appreciated to attention to detail that was put into this guest house!
