"The ground floor is being renovated, so reception is at The Kirkwall Hotel next door. So there is investment here. That being said, hopefully the rooms and floors are next. The existing building is shabby, though my small, single room was functional at best. 5'x10', plus a small bathroom that could do with new sink fixtures. The tight shower had hot water and good water pressure. Staff next door were very helpful and welcoming. Park nerely anywhere "there's no traffic warden"."

"Our room was very clean and had everything we needed. Eric (the host) could not have done more for us. Breakfast was fantastic. There was free parking provided. We were only a short drive from the main part of town - about 3 minutes? I would thoroughly recommend staying here."
"Amazing location, right on the sea. The waves lapping under the window. Amazing view; watching the sunrise and sunset from sitting in the window. The cottage is like a gallery. The amount and quality of the art work simply astonishing; including a Leila Thomson 'mini gallery' of her renowed tapestry-prints and an Orkney chair! The cottage aesthetics are the best we ever experienced. And there is more. Everywhere you turn you notice a piece of art work e.g. ceramic coasters, individually painted mugs. So many small details that arranged with care and artistic taste. The living room window is like a painting of the sea as you looking out. The practicals: very clean; airfryer, very good selection of pots & pans and utensils; barbecue set; table and chairs to take outside; wooden bench under the window; very good shower that heats up fast and powerful, extra towels available; comfortable bed with sea view; adjustable heating; books and information about Orkney including maps; binoculars; parking on the doorstep next to the jetty. Excellent communication with the host. Lovely village with a fine seafood resturant, five minutes from the ferry (you can watch it coming in and out from the window); 20 minutes drive to Kirkwall. A bonus was the blue sky and sunny days. Overall, an exceptional, unique cottage for a memorable holiday. Cannot recommend it enough."
"Great location and access, though paid parking is a nuisance during an extended stay. Staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and comfortable if a bit oddly shaped, being squeezed into an older building. The breakfast cold buffet and full (hot) Scottish order process is more than adequate. The Bothy Bar is cozy and inviting, serving Orkney's great beers and whiskies."

"The room was great! Tea, water and hot chocolate complementary in the room. Great restaurant with a separate pub. The staff were the major highlight! "
