Deep in the heart of Tasmania’s southeast, Richmond is a town that reveals a time gone by. Founded in the early 19th century, Richmond’s pioneer and convict heritage can still be seen throughout the town today. Explore its historic streets to see meticulously restored sandstone buildings and heritage-listed attractions. Stop by the Richmond Gaol to learn about life for convicts during the early days of white Australian settlement. Capture photos of the historic Richmond Bridge, built by convicts in the 1820s.

Richmond is just 25 kilometres (15 miles) north of Hobart. Buses connect the two cities. Visit Richmond in summer for warm weather buy a jumper of soft Tasmanian wool to embrace the cold Tasmanian winters.
