"What a great time we had at Treehouse Cottage. Arriving was hindered by being brain dead after the flight, and also not fully following directions. But the host was awesome! Talked us through corrections and made it before nightfall. And you do want to arrive by dark as it's very dark. Security lights guided us into parking. Once inside we were amazed to see all the amenities. A nice kitchen, stove and refrigerator, TV and music system. A great collection of cds, dvd movies and Hawaiian vinyl albums. Comfortable bedroom and bath. All very clean. As we were close to the volcano we went many times, sunrise, sunset, bubbling lava,even when the parks road closed and we were the only people at the lookout. We were able to leave a day early at the suggestion of owner as Hurricane Nolo was headed our way and received quick refund for the night missed.The owner was very informative the whole time. Everything was great and we hope to come back in the future."

"This hotel is more like a rental house than typical hotel. There are only eight or so rooms and each one has nice views with privacy. There is no staff on site but you can contact them is needed. I would stay here again. One thing to consider, you are 30 minutes from most services. If you don’t mind that and want something quiet this is a great option."

"Cute mom-and-pop property in a great location near Volcanoes National Park. It felt more like staying in a little house in the rainforest than a hotel. A little rustic, but in a good way. Hearing the birds and other animals at night made it really special. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!"

"Liked: 1) The owner met us upon arrival and indicated where to park; 2) The “jungle-like” setting; 3) The quiet setting; 4) The cottage-like unit, especially the tree trunk columns; and 5) The papaya and fig bar “continental breakfast.” Not liked: 1) The lack of clear signage and way-finding; and 2) The mustiness of the unit."

"The owners (different than the host) are the best! They made sure that we have everything we need to make our stay comfortable and stress-free as our house in Ka’u was damaged by Hurricane Lala. The Nene Room was beautiful, clean and peaceful with its large picture window overlooking the serene forest. We also stayed in Gecko room that has one bedroom, living room, and kitchen. The Gecko room is comfortable and perfect for family and longer stays. The surrounding is quiet and close to stores, restaurants, and very close proximity to Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park."
