Beautiful few days away from it all
Lovely property and welcoming place. 20 minutes drive from anywhere really; that was the appeal. We spent 5 days there without using the car, just walking, sitting, reading, going in the river. Well equipped small cottage. Was just 2 of us but the attractive mezzanine with 2 singles looked good. We used the shepherd's hut as a semi outdoor sitting room. Overall, a lovely accommodation in a beautiful, quiet valley. Oh, and with great star gazing potential.

Absolutely Magical Stay
From start to finish, what a wonderful stay! Beautifully situated, with such care and attention to detail. The conversion is clean, modern and spacious while still feeling homely and right at home in the middle of a working farm. Our family was made to feel right at home from the moment we arrived, and our children had the chance to feed the animals and enjoy farm fresh eggs! My son hasn't stopped talking about how much he loved the little lamb and the chickens, and will tell anyone who'll listen about his hot cocoa in the shepherd's hut by the fire. Stunning views, beautiful walks, peace and quiet, and recommended for a couples getaway and family holidays alike. Memories made for life, and we can't wait to visit again!

Beautiful cottage
The cottage is beautiful and clean. Underfloor heating is lovely. Beautiful hand-written note on arrival, with advise on where to walk. Surrounding forest is beautiful. Views are lovely and great to see woodpecker on the bird feeders through the window.

Excellent stay again
This was our 2nd time staying at Curlew cottage and shepards hut. Well equipped and clean cottage. Hosts are friendly and have a great knowledge of the area. My daughter loved feeding the chickens and made friends with the dogs. Hope to be back again😍

Fantastic stay
A lovely cottage and shepherds hut. Well equipped. Peace and quiet. Hosts are lovely and provide help and information if required. Lots of lovely nearby walks. Kids loved all the animals on the farm. Would definitely return 😊

A quiet cottage in beautiful surroundings
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage, everything was so peaceful and the views are amazing, especially at night when the skies are clear. Finding the cottage was not as difficult as I expected, if you use google street view you can follow the route practically to the end of the driveway. Daniele and Bill are excellent hosts, very friendly and approachable and they gave us some excellent advice on the local area and pointed us in the direction of some very nice walks, which you can start right from the doorstep of the cottage. The cottage itself is ideal for those looking for a quiet respite from the busy world, and it's still easy to get to the nearest town if you need to grab some supplies. We found everything inside the cottage to be of an excellent standard. The shepherds hut outside is a fantastic addition and we where in there a lot, with the log burner keeping us nice and toasty. I would highly recommend this cottage and we will definitely be visiting again in the future.

We've just spend a lovely, peaceful week at Curlew Cottage - despite the weather ! We enjoyed the the local walks and cycle routes and our girls particularly loved feeding the chickens every morning and meeting Daniele's horse. The cosy cottage is well equiped and has everything one needs. We hope to return one day soon !

Great place to stay!
We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage and the shepherd's hut was a real bonus. Very well-appointed property with well-equipped kitchen. Lots of walks/cycle routes on the doorstep. Hosts very friendly and helpful and on-hand to offer any advice. Would definitely return/recommend.

Wonderful stay in a beautiful cottage

Idyllic and peaceful retreat
Curlew Cottage was the perfect idyllic and peaceful retreat after an incredible raid trip around Scotland. The cottage itself is welcoming and cosy, as well as clean and well equipped. And the Shepherd’s hut is an excellent place to relax and warm up after a walk and though the forests. The owners are incredibly friendly and have a great knowledge of plenty of good walks in the area. The kids loved the zip wire, trampoline and the hideouts in the forest just behind the cottage. Would definitely recommend this place.

Forest walks and cosy evenings
This was our second visit to Curlew Cottage, we love it here as there are beautiful walks in the forest, right on your doorstep. The cottage is cosy and the shepherds hut is a bonus to play games in in the evening. Thanks to Daniele and Bill (as well as Tilly and Tarka), for being such welcoming hosts. We will be back!

Peace and Beauty in the Scottish Country
Curlew Cottage fulfilled our needs extremely well. The bedrooms were comfortable, the shower wonderfuly hot, the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our meals, and we truly appreciated the use of the washer and drying rack (we used it often). Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a quiet evening in their Shepherd's Wagon with a warm fire while reading our books, to add to our Scottish experience. Would recommend a stay to anyone looking for a place to "get away from it all". A Very Satisfied Couple From Wisconsin, USA

Simply beautiful!
It’s such a lovely, warm, clean cottage in a beautiful location with the kindest host. My partner and I stayed there as part of our trip to Kielder Observatory, it’s remote enough to enjoy bit of star gazing all from comfort master bed; through the skylight. We looked forward to staying again.

very nice bedrooms but the living area rather small.It was rather further from the main road than we had anticipated but we enjoyed the location.

Thanks so much for leaving a review for your July break. Quite right, the living area/kitchen are one space (see photos). However, in addition to the cottage, there is the free shepherd's hut with comfy sofa bed, and log burning stove, with a good supply of logs. I was pleased that your teenage grandson enjoyed using this space and enjoyed his time relaxing by the stove! We are glad you liked the location - it is 9 miles from the nearest town of Hawick - on minor country roads. You would be welcome back, Best wishes, Daniele and Bill

Romantic break
What can I say? The location is gorgeous. Pretty much no one around which made our stay exactly what we needed. The walks in the local area are pretty awesome, I recommend heading up to the Loch. Danielle and Bill themselves are lovely people, their property is fantastic. There was even some cookies and shortbread on arrival which we happily ate. We were both a big fan of their two dogs as well. All in all, a fantastic holiday.

Wonderful Rural Cottage

Lovely cottage in a beautiful, peaceful location. The owners couldn’t have been more accommodating and friendly. Lovely comfy beds and all amenities. The only slight improvement would have been a sofa in the living area. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay though, thank you.

What a beautiful spot for a beautiful cottage
Everything about this property is lovely. It's miles away from anywhere with no phone signal and very limited intermittent WiFi. A great place to be away from it all. The owners are lovely. Their dogs are lovely. The views are lovely. Will hopefully visit again

Peace and Tranquility at its Loveliest
A little gem of a cottage in the most tranquil of settings and one that we will return to I’m sure. The accommodation was cosy and warm and the shepherd bothy that is included was an adventure for our 11 year old granddaughter who felt she had her own independent holiday and loved sleeping in it. The surrounding bird life was lovely and we had a constant display of beautiful birds on the feeding station right outside the window. Forest walks were right on the doorstep and provided a wonderfully safe activity for our dogs who loved exploring them. Even a week of Scottish rain didn’t spoil our enjoyment of this lovely place and it’s delightful and charming hosts, Danielle and Bill who helped to make our stay just perfect.

A fantastic break everything I had hoped it would be and more
Bill and Daniele made me feel so welcome they are a lovely couple and their two dogs Tarka and Tilly are very nice. I was really needing a break and wanted somewhere I could take my puppy. The cottage appealed to me as it was far enough away from the town but close enough if you wanted to go to the shops or eat out. I was not disappointed at all we had wonderful walks on our doorstep and the views and cottage were perfect. We also had the added bonus of the shepherds hut with it’s lovely wood burning stove. I spent the late afternoon chilling with a book and a glass of wine snuggled up in the hut. First class break and I will be back again, Bill and Daniele are such genuine people. If you are looking for a quiet time to chill and enjoy the outdoors this is the place to go Thank you both xxx

Lovely, cosy cottage in the beautiful borders countryside
We booked Curlew Cottage for our first holiday with our new baby, somewhere we were hoping for peace and relaxation, it didn’t disappoint. Daniele was fantastic in the run up to our stay and very helpfully had a travel cot, which was one less thing for us to pack and worry about. From walks outdoors with Daniele’s dogs Tarka and Tilly, to visiting some lovely places close by - the distillery and glass blowing centre were highlights, we had a fab time and would recommend staying here to anyone. Thank you again for being such a brilliant host, the cottage was like a home from home and super toasty at night with the underfloor heating. Such a treat to walk around with no socks or shoes on! The cottage was just what we needed, perfect for us and we hope to be back when Iona is a bit older so she can enjoy more walks, sleep out in the shepherds hut and play on the trampoline.

We loved it!
We had such a relaxing stay. The cottage is beautiful and so quiet. The location feels so far away from anywhere but the reality is that you have a village just 20 mins away. We will be back! Daniela was so welcoming and there was some lovely touches in the cottage to make us feel at home

Another wonderful stay
We love going to Curlew Cottage. The idyllic, rural location is totally reviving and the perfect antidote to city life. It's our eight year old son's favourite cottage because he can play on the zip line and "help" Bill with the ducks, chickens and any of the other animals on the farm. Danielle and Bill are such great hosts and gave us a warm welcome back. The bottle of fizz in the fridge was such a lovely touch and the well equipped kitchen and heated floors make for a super comfortable stay. Highly recommend!

Truly Comfy Cottage
We were delighted with the accommodation as the farm cottage has been renovated and redecorated to a very high standard. We were given a warm welcome from the family friendly dogs and yummy buscuits and specialty teas. The cottage is very thoughtfully equipped in every way. Lots of books and games for the family as well as a zip line and trampoline for the adventurous . The living area in the cottage is small but adequate and the adjacent shepherds hut is a sweet retreat with a real fire. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the walks through the woods are very doable. Give it all a go!

Beautiful little cottage
Wonderful little cottage in an extremely quiet rural location. Hosts were lovely. Cottage has great kitchen facilities Views absolutely breathtaking. You can walk for miles without bumping in to anyone.

Lovely cottage in a fantastic location
We had a fantastic 4 day break in the new year. The weather was very cold but the cottage and shepherd’s hut were cosy and there were some excellent walks right on our doorstep. The children loved playing with Tilly and Tarka, the 2 dogs and Danielle and her family were excellent hosts. One place we would recommend visiting was Born in the Borders - a micro brewery and gin distillery. The lunch there was delicious and the kids had an amazing time grass sledging whilst we sampled the gin!

Absolutely stunning little gem
I stayed here for new year, had such a lovely time, Daniele were such a lovely lady, couldn’t do enough for you, and the cottage was beautiful with all you need and finished to a high standard, very peaceful and relaxing, the Shepard’s hut were a lovely touch, which I used for a few hours to watch a spooky film with the log burner on it were lovely and cosy, I loved the Christmas tree and lights in the barn it was a lovely touch. And with nice walks on your doorstep what more do you need. I will definitely be returning. Thank you so much x

Home from home, lovely house, perfect stay
Beautiful forest location, perfect for walking with stunning views. Lovely house - well appointed kitchen; fabulous hot, powerful, large shower; good beds - everything you need for a great stay. Underfloor heating keeps it super cosy and the log burner chucks out serious heat! Friendly helpful owners - would recommend for sure.

Lovely autumnal break
We had a wonderful family holiday in both Curlew Cottage and the Shepherd’s Hut. Curlew Cottage is delightful and had everything we needed. It was immaculately clean and the children loved exploring the house as well as the excitement of their bedrooms. We also slept in the Shepherd’s Hut which was a real adventure. The wood burning stove made it very cosy and snug. Danielle and Bill were extremely kind and Bill was endlessly patient with the children, showing them the horses and introducing them to the beautiful countryside. We loved this part of the country and had a really peaceful and restorative holiday. Thank you

A dream come true for my 60th birthday!
Staying in this beautiful quaint cozy cottage was actually a dream come true! The whole atmosphere inside and out is filled with beauty. We stayed here for 6 wonderful days. Waking up each morning and having our breakfast in the cheery kitchen was such a delight! We loved looking out, over the hillside with the grazing sheep and horses. Danielle and Bill were such lovely hosts. They made us feel so at home. The shepherds hut was fun, we enjoyed the warm wood stove while drinking our tea on the sofa. This whole experience was over the top fantastic, better than we had imagined. We felt so relaxed and comfortable staying here! We are telling our family about this cottage, hoping they can go someday too!

Fabulous Cottage and Shepherds Hut. Peaceful location and most lovely owners !
We stayed here for 3 nights and left wishing we had longer ! Curlew Cottage has to be one of the best Cottages to holiday in. Beautifully clean and spacious with 2 bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen, utility room and modern bathroom with a great power shower. The property is set in beautiful peaceful surroundings in the Craik Forest, no other houses there. The owners, Daniele and Bill are lovely, there if needed but not at all intrusive. Two lovely little pet dogs, a cat a horse and chickens and ducks all live here and are sweet as can be. The free to use Shepherds Hut is fabulous and cosy especially when the little log burner is lit. We absolutely loved staying here and would recommend it to anyone looking for the perfect getaway

Beautiful cottage !
We had a wonderful 5 days at the cottage. The scenery was utterly breathtaking and the cottage was just beautiful. Spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. Homemade cakes were a lovely welcoming treat, plus fresh eggs and wine in the fridge, we felt so lucky. The river below the cottage was amazing, our son loved swimming and playing in it for hours upon end. Our hosts made us feel very welcome and we’d love to visit again soon. Xxx

Perfect bliss
My son and myself, were lucky enough to have a three day stay here last week. We were greeted by a lovely hand written note, welcoming us to curlew cottage. that was a nice touch, even more so the flap jacks and duck eggs. I know it,s mentioned in a lot of reviews, but Danielle and Bill really have thought of everything you could possibly need . The cottage is spotlessly clean. The WIFI is a little slow but does all you need, to keep up to date with emails and such like. I,ve stayed in many cottages over the last few years and the WIFI is no different. There are walks straight from the door, which was perfect for my two Labradors. I would say the cottage is ideal for couples or small families alike.Danielle and Bill are there if you need them, if you don,t they aren,t intrusive. All in all a perfect break, surrounded by beautiful scenery and really nice people. Would love to go back, sometime in the winter months.

Absolutely lovely couldnt fault anything.
The property was very well presented and very clean and tidy. Danielle and Bill were very welcoming and provided us with fresh duck eggs on request. We had never been to that part of scotland before and were eager to explore the area. The weather could have been better but it didnt stop us getting out everyday.

Super cottage in a quiet relaxed setting
We were made to feel very welcome , and enjoyed the duck eggs and home baking on our arrival. The cottage is modern, but with lots of character. We loved the shepherd's hut behind the cottage, great place for playing cards in the evening.

Well fitted out and comfortable cottage in a lovely out of the way location
We had some fears that with the snow we would not be able to get to the cottage, but Danielle told us that she would pick us up at the road end in her 4x4 but as things turned out we were able to drive there ok. On arrival Danielle was most helpful, telling us we could use the Shepherd's Hut as well as the main cottage. This we did on our second night there, lighting the stove that had been laid for us, it was great! The main cottage was well fitted out and most comfortable with the underfloor heating, and the power shower was fantastic! All in all we spent three peaceful, relaxing days there and wish we could have stayed longer.

Perfect getaway from it all cottage. Lovely hosts. Two dogs we fell in love with. Spectacular views.
An amazing location, a beautiful cottage with everything we needed. This included when we arrived homemade flapjack and mince pies. It was very clean, the heated flooring a luxuary. The rainfalll shower wonderful post our daily walk. Daniele and bill were just lovely. It snowed they provided the children with sledges. They took the girls to feed the animals and allowed them to walk and play with the dogs every day they were in heaven. We all fell in love with the dogs Tilly and Tarka ❤️. I almost forgot the Shepard’s hut my husband got to make fire every night. This venue is perfect if you want a tech free break and enjoy walks in the woods. Perfect for young families we loved it. Only improvement would be a request for a sofa to snuggle up on in front of the telly. Thank you for a truly wonderful holiday x
