We understood when booking that this unit that construction was extensive, and the room did not have an ocean view. That expectation was clear in the listing and email. However, the photos were misleading. The room featured large, expansive curtains that reasonably suggested there would at least be some type of exterior view. Instead, the “view” was a brick wall directly outside the window. That was disappointing and felt deceptive in how the room was presented online. The room was extremely hot and humid. With a 4:00 p.m. check-in, the room temperature should have at least been comfortable. Communication with property management was frustrating. We were repeatedly reminded that “other guests were fine with the accommodations,” which was not helpful or reassuring. We chose not to stay, and were in the room for less than five minutes. Initially, no refund was offered despite the conditions and concerns. The cleaning fee was eventually refunded only after reminding the property manager that cleaning services would not be necessary since we never used the room. Most disappointing was the overall lack of hospitality and care demonstrated throughout the interaction. For a property in Hawai‘i, we expected at least some sense of “Aloha spirit.” Warmth, understanding, and customer care were lacking. The experience fell well short of expectations due to misleading presentation, parking limitations, poor room conditions upon arrival, and dismissive communication from management.
