Eclectic Hilltop House · Panoramic Views of the South Downs
Kilnhanger is a distinctive hilltop home set high above Haslemere on Marley Heights, where clouds drift past the balcony and the views stretch across the South Downs to Cowdray Park. Surrounded by woodland and walking trails, it’s the perfect place to unwind, recharge, and explore the Surrey Hills.
Set across three spacious floors, Kilnhanger combines quirky character with calm countryside comfort. The house sleeps up to ten guests in four bedrooms, offering flexible accommodation for families and groups visiting Goodwood, Cowdray Park Polo Club, or the South Coast.
The open-plan kitchen and dining area centres around a large extending table that seats ten. The newly installed Beko 100cm double-oven range cooker features five ceramic hobs, a warming zone, and easy-clean ovens — ideal for sociable cooking. The sitting room has two three-seater sofas and a two-seater, a 50” Smart TV, and sliding doors opening to the balcony with sweeping views.
The balcony overlooks a generous garden, a lovely space for children and dogs to play. While the front gates can be closed, the garden isn’t fully dog-proof and opens to neighbouring woodland, so pets should be supervised. Dogs are very welcome.
The house layout:
Ground floor: 1 king bedroom; separate bathroom with bath and Aqualisa shower; kitchen, dining, and sitting room with balcony access.
First floor: 2 king bedrooms (one master); shared marble bathroom with large soaking bath and handheld shower.
Lower ground floor (family annex): 4 single beds (2×3ft, 2×2ft 6in, low ceilings), small sitting room with TV, half bath and shower, and kitchen/utility with washing machine and small cooker. Doors lead directly to the patio and garden.
Amenities include Wi-Fi throughout, range cooker, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, coffee machine, BBQ, and outdoor seating.
We invite you to our house in the clouds, where light, space, and panoramic views make every stay unforgettable.

It was perfect. Loads of space for us all. And such a beautiful house and area. Hosts were excellent in keeping us informed of details.

Dated, tired. Disappointing
The location is stunning and in its glory days the property would have been too.Sadly, the decor is tired, the aga has been removed leaving a mess of missing plaster, tiles and brickwork that show it was ripped out and nothing done to the wall behind. The kitchen needs replacing and looks grubby and dirty even when you clean it. Chipped mugs, flaking baking trays and miniature dinner plates make self catering a bit miserable. The cellar/downstairs accommodation is damp, the bedding is damp and the smell isn’t pleasant. The ground floor bathroom is old and unfortunately has a silverfish infestation which makes it feel grim.Upstairs the bathroom is more modern but the shower doesn’t work. The hot water manages 1 bath per half day so not adequate for a larger family who expect hot water on demand and no way to wash your hair upstairs. The house has an eclectic charm but in reality it needs a complete overhaul to be fit for purpose. The first house we have rented that we left early and wouldn’t return to
