Riverview Cabin Located Along the Scenic Mississippi River

***Please read entire description!
-WIFI is available but is VERY slow and sketchy. Typically does NOT work after a rain.
-Patio is currently under construction but is still available to use. Use caution.

This quaint Riverview Cabin is located along State Highway 96 that is along the Scenic River Road, two miles north of Hamilton, Illinois or 10 miles south of historic Nauvoo, Illinois. The Cozy Cabin offers unique charm and quarks since it was built in 1901, primarily as a fishing cabin. This cabin is naturally rustic.

DESCRIPTION of LOCATION:

The views from this cabin offer views of the Mississippi River, gorgeous sunsets, eagles soaring, pelicans bobbing along, and other water wildlife. Barges cruise up and down the river on a regular basis, as well as river boats, and fishing boats. Trains rumble along the Iowa side of the river at different times. The lily pads add to the canvas and begin to bloom a lotus shaped bloom in mid-summer.

There is a wide variety of features around the cabin and in the neighboring areas to take advantage of. Bring your fishing poles and visit the Illinois DNR website to gain a fishing license and try out some of the local fishing hot spots. Geode hunting is a favorite pastime for locals and visitors. Nauvoo offers historical adventures throughout much of the spring, summer, and fall months.

Outside the Riverview Cabin you can enjoy the swing while you take in the river views. Explore and revel in the blooming flower gardens around the cabin. Sit out on the secluded patio that backs up to tall mature trees and appreciate the fire ring. Other wild birds can be viewed and watched from the picnic table while BBQing. The tranquility of nature is all around the cabin.

There is a rest area that is walking distance from the Riverview Cabin. The mowed areas just across the road from the cabin are state owned and can be utilized as a picnic spot, area to play, or spend time exploring. There are other areas like this along this scenic highway, too.

CABIN FEATURES:

When you visit the Riverview Cabin, you will enter the front door into the living room. The living room faces the Mississippi River and provides a lovely view, even on a rainy day. There is a TV and DVD player, sofa with recliners at each end, another recliner, and a glider. There are DVD's at the cabin for your viewing. The TV offers local channels only.

The dining room offers a table with four chairs and there are a few extra available that can be pulled up. There is neat, framed art on the walls that provide some history and information. For anyone with young children, there is a booster seat, games, books, and a few toys available. You can also enjoy the river view from the dining room, too.

The kitchen has a double sink, electric stove, microwave, toaster, crockpot, coffee maker, small refrigerator with freezer, some dishes, cooking utensils, and other basic kitchen items. The complete kitchen is at the back of the cabin and offers a door that leads to the patio. That is where you will find the BBQ grill and additional seating.

There is only one bedroom, and it is located just off of the dining room. There is no "bedroom door". The bedroom offers a queen-sized bed, closet space, and dresser. There are windows that can provide you with a view of the river and views of the timber.

The one and only bathroom entrance is through the bedroom. It offers a shower, toilet, pedestal sink, and counter. The water supply comes from a rural water treatment facility. We no longer have the well water.

Other Additional Cabin Features:
*Air conditioner
*Electric Heat
*Rural/City water
*Single cot available
*Bag chairs to use
*Extra pillows & bedding as needed
*Outside hydrant for use (we ask you put the hose back as you found it)
*Lower than average ceilings
*Floors are uneven and slightly slanted or wonky (some rooms worse than others)

OTHER CABIN NOTES:
-No smoking, vaping, or chewing tobacco inside the cabin.
-No illegal drug use on the grounds.
-No pets inside or outside the cabin...pets aren't allowed.
-WIFI is NOT reliable.
-Not handicap accessible.
-ALL young children must be accompanied by an adult when outside due to the road traffic, river, and deep ditches.
-This cabin is best suited for two adults with children.
-Guests will need to supply an air mattress for additional sleeping if needed.
-You are welcome to have a small gathering of friends/family come by and visit, but no additional overnight guests than what was registered to stay.
-Exterior outdoor lights: front door light switch is in the dining room. Backdoor light is in the kitchen.
-The wiring is older and can become overpowered. Turn off what you aren't using and flip the breaker to regain power.

Our Getaway
Julie has a wonderful gem in this cabin and she is one hard working woman! We stayed 5 nights and loved the calm, sweet feeling of the space. It’s so comfy with beautiful river views and surrounded by trees and nature sounds. Very convenient, close to restaurants and stores, easy to find but yet separate and quiet. Julie has taken great care of this property and takes great care of her guests! We will be back for sure!

Great Location
Great location with an amazing view of the Mississippi. Landscaping in front is lovely. Much work being done in back so I don't know about that. The cabin had everything we needed but it is quirky--like being on a boat with floors that slanted every which way. So fine and even fun if your ankles are strong. Not new, but unique with a great view.

House built in 1901 so has uneven floors, but you couldn’t ask for a more charming place. So clean accommodations and everything you need to make your stay pleasurable. I would recommend and will be booking it again!!

Great location! Picture-perfect sunsets!
Great little cottage in the perfect location! We got there just in time to see the most beautiful sunset right over the river! Stunning! There were several little quirky things about the cottage because of its age, but in our opinion, they just made it even more charming. There was a problem with the Wifi apparently because of the massive storm that hit the area earlier in the summer, but we made due without. I would definitely recommend!

Crooked cabin is comfy too
The river cabin is very very clean, and has everything you need for a stay. Great communication with the nice owner! Very comfy bed and couch, seating around the dining room table for plenty as well. Yes, the floors tilt in many directions and the ceiling is low in the back part of the kitchen.. it is a river cabin built in 1901 after all, but very tall 6'+ may need to watch out, but wasn't a problem. Just have your sea legs on and enjoy the unique stay! The living room, swing, and picnic table views to the river are great! And the bed is level and very, very comfy. If we find ourselves back in this area I wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Convenient location and view was nice. Place was clean overall, but cluttered, Traffic on road below noisy. Cabin was musty smelling. I realize the place was built some time ago, but really needs better maintenance - some window sash held shut / down with sticks of wood, some wouldn’t open at all to let air in (and air conditioner was so noisy I couldn’t sleep with it on), some crack out windows didn’t work at all, one blind in living room broke so we couldn’t open it, electricity would never pass an inspection (was running all over the walls to connect to outlets and lights), floors so uneven it felt like you were in a fun house with the floors moving up and down as you walked. Perhaps some people find some of this country charming, but it certainly wasn’t what I expected for the 4.7 out of 5 rating it had. The description did indicate the internet wasn’t totally reliable, however it never connected at all for the two nights we were there, and we had to change all the TV settings ourselves to get any regular (like NBC) type channels. Sorry, but this is the truth.

Pleasant stay along the River in Hamilton
This cozy cottage is well furnished with many attractive touches. There are also games, DVD movies and books for all ages. There is a dining room table, which we also used to play games on. The recliner chair and platform rocker and couch were most comfortable. There was an air conditioner in the dining room. and for cool days a space heater in the living room. We were well pleased with our stay.

Weekend stay
Overall, I believe the host does their best to dress the place up, but it is an older cabin, and the biggest issue I had was it felt and smelled like a musty grandparent house equipped with flea market furniture. That being said, you will have everything you need, and you can appreciate that! REALLY, you can! It was clean, with hot water, a fridge, a decent bed, and clean sheets, but sleep at the foot due to the slope in the house. There are a ton of good DVDs because there are three tv channels, so we watched old favorites, which was great. It was like a walk back in time to grandmother's house, and all in all, we learned to appreciate the little cabin. It reminded us of where we once lived many moons ago, but the musty smell was our biggest regret. Definitely a hundred-dollar-a-night stay in this world.
