Visit the intriguing museums and art centres dotted around this city and its neighboring towns in the scenic Laurel Highlands.

Greensburg is an urban hub of culture and history beyond the eastern outskirts of Pittsburgh. Museums, theaters and art galleries stand beside the fascinating architectural designs of churches and old-fashioned boutiques and restaurants. Admire the artistic treasures scattered throughout the city and explore the intriguing surrounding towns.

Make your way through the exhibits of the Westmoreland Museum of American Art. This art center focuses on works from southwestern Pennsylvania. Attend a dramatic performance or classical recital at The Palace Theatre in the revitalized downtown part of the city.

Get to the restored Greensburg Train Station and gaze up at the majestic clock tower. Ride the Amtrak train to nearby towns to see some of the area’s highlights. These include the Big Mac Museum in North Huntingdon, the Compass Inn Museum in Laughlintown and the Geyer Performing Arts Center in Scottdale. Learn about the regional importance of the train at the Youngwood Historical and Railroad Museum.

Greensburg takes its name from Nathanael Greene, who was a major general in the American Revolutionary War. Visit the British fortification dating back to the 18th-century French and Indian War at Fort Ligonier in Ligonier. A little south of Greensburg is Mount Pleasant, where you’ll find the Mount Pleasant Glass Museum.

Golfers can choose from a variety of clubs, such as the Chestnut Ridge Golf Course and the Valley Green Golf and Country Club, to play a round in the picturesque undulating terrain of the Laurel Highlands. Expect hot and humid summers, while winters are cold and snowy.

Find Greensburg in the Pittsburgh Metro Area in the southwestern corner of Pennsylvania. Fly to Pittsburgh International Airport and rent a car for the 50-mile (80-kilometer) journey east to arrive here in 1 to 2 hours. Get around the city via the many bus routes or cycle along the Five Star Trail.

An eclectic range of architectural gems and cultural havens give Greensburg its identity.
