The best area to stay in Greci itself is within the historic centre, specifically around Piazza Umberto I.

This compact and well-preserved area is the heart of the village. It's characterised by its narrow, winding streets, traditional stone buildings, and the main square, Piazza Umberto I, which often hosts local events and features the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. The historic centre is very walkable, allowing visitors to easily explore on foot.

For couples looking for a quiet and authentic Italian experience, staying in the historic centre offers a unique charm. It's superb for leisurely strolls, enjoying local cuisine at small trattorias, and experiencing the village's traditional way of life away from larger tourist crowds.

For families, particularly those with older children, the historic centre provides a chance to connect with local culture. The car-free streets make for pleasant walks, and the central square offers a natural gathering point.

The best time to go to Greci is during the late spring (May to early June) or early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasantly mild and the countryside is at its most inviting.

These shoulder seasons offer comfortable temperatures for exploring the surrounding Irpinia region without the intense heat of summer. You'll find the vineyards and olive groves lush in spring, and the autumn brings the grape harvest and vibrant foliage, along with local food festivals celebrating regional produce. It's an ideal time for those who appreciate scenic drives and outdoor activities like gentle hikes.

For travellers interested in a tranquil escape, these months provide a calmer experience compared to the busier summer period.
