  • One of the oldest structures in the region, Dowling House is an 1830s Stagecoach Inn, turned farmhouse, turned Inn again! Updated with basic modern amenities and prepped for up to sixteen guests, Dowling House sits atop a hill overlooking the Napanee River Valley and Mohawk Bay on the Bay of Quinte on a one-acre property in the rolling fields and forests of the Lennox and Addington countryside. Enjoy a cozy cottage getaway with family and friends, build a campfire under the stars or get cozy by our fireplace, and make us your base to explore the region.

    Guests will appreciate easy access to Prince Edward County, Sandbanks, local vineyards, and the cities of Napanee, Belleville, and Kingston. Only five minutes to Highway 401. We pride ourselves in being a clean, affordable option in cottage country : )

This is a very old but beautiful house. Host was extremely friendly. We stayed about 12 people and so got the whole house. Everything was in order and working except the fridge was leaking but there was another fridge inside ..so manageable

Country Stopover

We needed a place to stay on the way to Kingston, ON. We spent a night at the property. There were 6 of us and our dog; we were comfortable and enjoyed the charming living room. We had dinner and breakfast in the kitchen. Everything was clean and worked well.

Perfect!

We stayed here before and after a wedding. Robert was great with his communication. The house was spacious, and so much beautiful charm to it! Highly recommend if you’re staying in Napanee!

Got there well after check in time. When i walked in there was two pairs of shoes at the door, ladders through out the living room, tools, curtain rods on the ground, all the couches where pushed in to the center of the living room. I checked the rooms upstairs to see if anyone was already there? Maybe a double booked issue? No one home, except for when i heard an other door open, the owner had a friend living in this attached room that is in the listings description as a room that is part of the house. Guy came out with his hands covered in wings sauce all confused, had no clue we were coming. Apologized for the mess and asked if he could still sleep in that room! I said no as i had four other people coming. He said he would contact the host and check with him? He tried his best to clean up the house witch took a while, the host showed up and helped him out. I was in disbelief, at this point my friends had showed up and i felt horrible since i had booked this spot for us and now i felt like i should give them their part of the money they gave me towards this stay. All and all we got to sleep there, we cooked food in the dishes we had to wash cause they were still dirty for the wing sauce guy. There was a dirty laundry basket in the room where the wing sauce guy was staying. I really wish i could get my money back for this stay. Might be the last time i use VRBO since i cant seem to figure out how to contact them. I dont want to take an other risk.

The house is in need of a thorough clean. On arrival the front porch has two broken down, totally unusable old wicker chairs. When entering the house there is a strong old cigarette smoke, damp smell. It did abate some with the constant use of floor fans. The windows badly need to be cleaned. The rooms are poorly painted with dark colours that totally absorb the light. The only ceiling lights are in the kitchen and entry. Otherwise the lighting on the main floor is from wall sconces, which are inadequate. The kitchen has what is needed. However the fridge freezes food items and there is very little light in the stove area. There is no comfortable furniture. It is old and tired. There is a surplus of furniture, but as mentioned, it is not comfortable. The main floor bathroom has an under the stairway shower, making it impossible for an average sized adult to use. The bedrooms (there are three upstairs) again are over furnished. The beds were adequate. The upstairs bathroom has a usable tub and shower. The property is pretty with large mature trees, but unfortunately unusable due to mosquitoes. All in all, I could not in good conscience recommend this property.
