The Freeman - Newly Renovated 14K SF Estate on 40 Acres

The Freeman Berkshires sits on 40 acres of manicured landscape with a tennis court, a four-acre vineyard, a myriad of amenities and rolling views of a large pond on property and Mount Everett beyond. Whether you want to relax in the library, cuddle up in the lodge room, enjoy the artist's loft or snuggle up in front of one of the home's six fireplaces, you will find beautiful spaces to enjoy in groups or in solitude. 100% carbon neutral.

The property offers two dining rooms (including a fifteen foot custom dining table), a well equipped kitchen, herb and vegetable garden, fire pit and expansive multi-level blue stone patios and decks. A three car garage and loft is included.

We provide a long list of amenities, including a paddle board, four person metal row boat and kayak for the pond. For the kids big and small we offer a retro arcade, foosball table, ping-pong, board games, PS4 and a virtual reality gaming system. For outdoors you will find bocce, croquet, tennis and badminton equipment, large Jenga and more.
The Freeman Berkshires is an innovative social equity vehicle. Owned by 141 investors from Main Street and Wall Street through Shared Estates' equity crowdfunding model, the property is part of a transformation that levels the real estate investing playing field.
The Berkshires is one of the country's top cultural centers: Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (largest in the US), Kripalu (largest yoga center), Williams College (#1 Liberal Arts College in the US), Tanglewood, Shakespeare and Company, The Mount, Clark Art, Jacobs Pillow and more.
The Berkshires is also home to a variety of outdoor destinations: Bousquet, Butternut, Catamount (longest zip line in the USA) and Jiminy Peak.
One 90" TV in the lodge room for family movie nights. We provide the popcorn, biscotti, teas, cocoa, candy and more. A welcome basket of local goods and fresh cut flowers greet your party.
The Freeman Berkshires is named after local Elizabeth (Mumbet) Freeman - the first African American to sue and win her freedom under the Massachusetts constitution in 1781. You will find a variety of sculpture and original art installed in tribute to her story. The property donates 1% of net income to the Elizabeth Freeman Center, a 501c(3) that works to end cycles of domestic violence.
Owner's previous property was #1 on VRBO in the Berkshires, and was showcased on Netflix's "World's Most Amazing Vacation Rentals" series.

A Slice of Serenity
We've stayed in a lot of home rentals - and across the board - this was the best place ever. The home was clean, nicely decorated and super comfortable. The hosts were easy to get a hold of and incredibly welcoming, leaving us with a generous basket of local treats. We loved the peaceful outdoor space and roamed all 40 acres. The pond was beautiful and if it had only been warmer we'd have jumped in the rowboat. We will be back for sure. A++ Thank you, Anna!

Great Family Holiday
This was our second holiday vacation in this amazing house. We had 9 children and 8 adults and there was plenty of room. The grounds are spectacular with great outdoor seating around the fire pit. The house works beautifully for a large group, beds are all comfy. We definitely will rent this property again. Communication with the Property Manager Matt is excellent. He was very responsive and helpful.

Idyllic Setting
The house and grounds are just wonderful! The layout is perfect for a large family gathering, with plenty of bedrooms (seven rather than the five indicated in the VRBO listing), a plethora of seating areas, a well equipped kitchen, and activities galore. The outdoor area is especially lovely, despite the imperfect condition of the cushions and on-site tennis court. I'm so glad we found this house for our vacation.

Amazing Wedding Venue
This home is absolutely stunning, it accommodated the whole wedding, party to stay there with us, rehearsal, dinner, and beautiful outdoor wedding. We had an wedding arbor with the mountain in the back ground, and the VRBO provided beautiful wooden benches for all guests to sit on. This home is fully stocked with everything you will need. Wish I could upload pictures.

Berkshire Graduation/Family Reunion- Exceeded Expectations
So, I reached out to the property manager prior to check-in a number of times because of not-so-great house rental experiences in the past. BUT unnecessary-- as the Freeman Property EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTIONS. Fresh flowers and fruit on the tables, and a lovely welcome note and basket- that alone showed the care the owners take in welcoming guests. I was especially pleased that my father- wheelchair bound- was able to participate in family events (watching movies, playing games, meals, etc) and enjoy most of the house (ground level). Gorgeous welcoming spaces for all my family members- from cousins, my sons, brothers, SIL, niece, and nephew playing board and video games and spending time outside, on/near the water- to my aunts, uncles, and my parents (in their 70s) relaxing outside. What was most memorable: for all the lovely space the house provided, my family mostly gravitated to the kitchen, laughing and watching my aunts and mother "compete" in cooking their favorite dishes. We gathered for my son's graduation from Berkshire School (about 2 mi away) but staying at the property for the week was so much more for us-- it was a family reunion; an incredible opportunity for family from FL, TX, GA, NY, and CT to come together, share great food, and family stories. My family was extraordinarily grateful- staying together in the house was an experience we'll never forget. Highly recommend this property-- I hope we'll have the chance to stay at the Freeman again.
