Comfortable cabin

The cabin was incredible! Very comfortable, clean and cozy. It was exactly what are family needed for a quick getaway. We stayed through new years weekend, walking distance to local shops and restaurants. We’d love to stay again in the future. Perfect for our little family.

Great winter stay in Government Camp!

The house was perfect for our multi-generational family stay on Mt. Hood! Grandparents took the room by the kitchen, parents and kids were upstairs, the kids in the bunks. The house stayed plenty warm enough with or even without using the wood stove. Ample hooks for drying wet winter gear were appreciated and so were the heated floors - so helpful for drying our boots!

Great cottage in Govy!

Great cabin for Mt. Hood day hiking

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Snowy Owl cabin for the week we spent day hiking on the trails around Mt. Hood. The cabin was clean, roomy, and well appointed. The bottom floor remained exceptionally cool and comfortable all afternoon (mid-July 2023) despite the fact that Snowy Owl (like all properties in Govt Camp we considered) has no A/C ... was great to return from hiking to a cool play space (pool table, TV) with W/D for washing/drying our hiking clothes. Short walking distance to shops and restaurants along the main drag (Govt Camp Loop) through town. Overall, we both highly recommend staying at Snowy Owl for your Mt. Hood vacation.

Heated floors are nice! Also the listing says no pets/dogs but there was dog hair all over the furniture, blankets and floors in the downstairs which got all over our clothes and I was not thrilled about that.

Awesome end of summer getaway

We had a wonderful stay and really appreciate the attention to detail that went into the recent renovation. When we have a cabin of our own someday, I want to set it up just like the Snowy Owl cabin! There are neighbors close by and you can hear rt 26, but the fantastic interior, immediate proximity of restaurants and ease of getting to the trails make me want to come back again.

Lots of good things

We loved the location and cabin! There wasn’t a coffee machine which was a bummer and also no triangle for the pool table. Place was pretty clean but the listing and rules said no pets however there was dog hair all over the furniture and floors which rubbed all over my clothes. That was a bummer but it was cute and comfy and the heated floors were nice.

Cold cabin

Bring a couple space heaters if you’re staying here in winter months as the cabin has no central heat, insulation or enough space heaters. We wore our heavy coats and lots of layers for a good amount of time. The small pot belly stove would eventually only heat the second floor, but it had a blower to help distribute the heat, so that helped. There was one small space heater in the downstairs tv/pool table room, which was a requirement because that room was basically a basement and really cold. The third floor (master bedroom, bunk beds and small bath) could benefit from a couple heaters. There wasn’t a really comfortable place to hang out as the sofa on the second floor was like a futon and the basement was, again, super cold. We brought two wooden baby gates, but the openings into the kitchen and downstairs weren’t the most secure for their use. Probably wouldn’t stay here again with a toddler -The positives are that the hot water was abundant and there was a full size washer and dryer in the basement. The bathrooms and entryway have heated floors, though you’ll have to fiddle with the settings. The trees surrounding the house were thick and beautiful. And the restaurants within walking distance were tasty and had friendly staff. Stocked kitchen with lots of tools and a couple dry staples. Plenty of fire wood provided by the rental company. Solid wifi throughout and smart tv downstairs.

Beautiful Place, Great Location

Reviewer Comments: Good====The home is gorgeous, right down to the smell of the wood throughout. The beds are firm and comfortable. Nearly all the windows open and even during a heat wave, the home was cool and comfortable.The full size washer and drier are really appreciated when you have been hiking all day!You are 2 blocks from an adventure park. Its was a great time for the kids we had ranging from 10 to 17 in age. Bad===Look carefully at the pictures of the upstairs. At 6 feet tall, I could not bend over and spit in the sink while brushing teeth without banging my head. The shower felt cramped. Standing up from the bed at night, it was too easy to bang my head on a rafter. So what appears to be eclectic appeal has a bit of a cost in convenience for anyone my height or greater.I estimate a 5'10" and lower would be a comfortable heightI guess the property is slowly being remodeled as there are some parts that feel unfinished. In particular, with three levels to navigate and no hand rails, I did not feel safe carrying things on the stairs. There is no garbage disposal. Ugly====In the rafters upstairs are cobwebs and a few exposed nails near the rafters. I pricked myself when reaching for a rafter at night to steady myself while standing from the bed. It's easily fixed. The management company is about 12 miles from the property. We had a paperwork mix up and had to drive there to sign after hours. Be sure to confirm your paperwork so you can just get a door code and not make the extra drive. Recommendation=============Given the installation of hand rails on the stairs I would stay here again. The beauty of the place, the location and the comfort of the beds trump the other considerations. The owner left a notebook of local things to do. Snowy Owl Cabin in July

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My family was the first to stay in this recently renovated cabin (July 1-4, 2017). There are few more items to fix, but overall it was a lovely spot. The location near the ski bowls is very convenient. We were there for the hiking and photography. The book about the area was especially helpful for the trails, etc. Each scene we photographed was more spectacular than the last one. The restaurants were good, too. AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE!! :-)
