"Having parking was a huge benefit, the high street does get busy so knowing it wasn't going to be an issue is great. The breakfast was lovely, nice amount of choice and the full cooked breakfast was huge! We didn't get a chance to have a coffee in the cafe but the homemade cakes and biscuits looked delicious. Check in and check out was smooth and quick. We were in room 86 and the windowsill needs a bit of maintenance and the room could do with a freshen up but the room was clean and the bed was comfy. The locationis very handy for a stroll down the high street. Can't fault anything and would definitely stay here again."

"The Abbey Residence has a rooming house feel. We had a spacious room with large but dated ensuite. The walls could use a lick of paint, but there were no real issues with the room. Wifi was good and our room had a good sized Roku based smart TV with lots of streaming options. Parking in central Edinburgh is hard so leave your car at the Abbey Residence and catch the bus into town from the bus stop just across the road. It’s no high end hotel, but our room was clean and comfortable with good wardrobe and desk space. The staff were friendly and helpful. A local supermarket was just across the road if you need any ancillary items. There’s some traffic noise from the adjacent streets, but not enough to stop us from getting a good night’s sleep on the large soft bed. Overall a much more pleasant experience than you’d expect for the price point. Highly recommended for those wanting good value."

"Right from the second we walked through the front door, we were met my smiling and helpful staff. All amenities were carefully pointed out to us 5/5 for reception staff. Unfortunately the room itself was a disappointment, whilst it was immaculately clean, there is no way I could describe it as a "deluxe room". I would describe it as a basic room. As it was our wedding anniversary I thought that upgrading to a deluxe would be a little bit special, big letdown. The bar area was again immaculately clean and the staff again friendly and helpful 5/5 to bar staff. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice, cereal, croissants, fruit, hot food (sausage, bacon, eggs - both fried and scrambled, potato scones, black pudding, fried tomato, beans and mushrooms. Toast is available, as is tea and coffee. Again 5/5 for the staff. The lounge areas are lovely with plenty of space both inside and outside. Swimming pool and sauna areas were great. We really enjoyed our stay despite the disappointment in the room. On the downside, the hotel is in need of a bit of TLC. Carpets on 1st floor down to reception need replaced, they are threadbare in numerous places. Wallpaper beginning to peel off and almost every ceiling we came across needs painted or replaced. The driveway leading up to the front door needs repaired, potholes all the way from initial entrance onto driveway, all the way to front door.These things are obviously outside of the staffs purview. Menu prices are a bit on the steep side."
