Visit Glacier Martial, a spectacular icy world at the end of an ascent through snowy mountains. In winter, the ski centre is accessible via a chairlift that offers stunning views of the surrounding region. Above the lift, the remaining ascent is not too steep, so beginner trekkers can manage it. This glacier is distinctive in that visitors come for the surrounding views rather than the ice structure itself.
Ride the chairlift above drifting clouds and enjoy views of the Beagle Channel and its islands near the city of Ushuaia. Upon arriving at the lift’s terminus, you’ll see the shelter of the Andean Club of Ushuaia. Follow the trail beside a river that leads to the base of the glacier.
Alternatively, climb from the bottom of the mountain on foot in about an hour. Purchase snacks from the café and the welcome centre at the base. Along the way, several refuges offer respite.
