Weekend break in Gent

Property is in a great location just behind the Vrijdagmarkt a vibrant square which is a short walk to the main square with St Nicholas Church, the Cathedral and the Belfry. An underground car park is just around the corner where you can park as long as you like for a fee. The apartment was well designed to make the most of the space, comfortable, clean & tidy. I would recommend if staying in Gent.

The apartment was very nice with a fantastic porch / balcony for sitting outside and enjoying both the sun and shade. The only issue I had was with the TV. there was no where to sit comfortable to watch the TV from the living room or the bed.

Excellent location.Being Sub street level resulted in noise from passing footfall and traffic. Apartment very clean and the filter coffee was a bonus. Points for charging mobile devices not particularly well placed and bed & sofa very low. Although bathroom had new fittings you had to squeeze past the sink unit to access the shower. Perhaps a smaller sink unit would help. Surprised that to pay by credit card you had to be sent a link by the proprietor as there was no facility to pay at the accommodation. Perhaps that could be made clear at the time of booking as I certainly would then have paid in advance.

Only view is of the car park

I chose this place based upon location and particularly the picture that shows a beautiful night view from the property. While our stay was comfortable and the photos of the rooms are accurate there was no view of anything from any of the rooms which amounts to false advertising. It was interesting to note that the properties website does not show the night scene photo or that of the cathedral so I have to wonder why the hotels.com show them?? I posted the photos of our room but good old hotels.com refused to post them.

Parking is optional and an additional cost and must be requested immediately from the property management after reservation. The location is strategically located inside the city. The rooms are not cleaned on a daily basis as these are fully functional studios with complete kitchen and tools and not a hotel.

We stayed during the Festival of Ghent. The partying near the place continued until between 5 am and 5:30 am! So loud, that we Ouldn't sleep well. Ear plugs are a must if you come in the summer during the festival.

The Beauty of Ghent

I liked : the location - within walking distance to all the city attractions, the well-equipped kitchenette - nothing was missing. The studio was clean and quiet. I didn't like : the view from the windows - due to the low ground floor/basement location all I could see were the legs of other people and dogs :) The studio was also pretty dark. Anyway, the good thing about the basement was that we didn't need to drag all our luggage up the super narrow stairs;-) And one more thing/ piece of advice : everything would have been perfect, if we had been given directions how to get to the car park IN ADVANCE . For someone who doesn't know the place, finding a parking spot always involves lots of stress. And going back from the car park to the Place2stay (in order to pack our luggage) was a living nightmare, as we had to drive nearly 5 km all around which took us 20 minutes. Again : had we known about that sooner, we would have been prepared for the time &distance, which could have saved us lots of unnecessary stress.
