Enjoy nights of singing, drinking, dancing and live music at the party capital of downtown St. John’s, two blocks of clubs and bars.

George Street is the boisterous and colourful hub of St. John’s nightlife scene. This is where residents and visitors come to party in venues that stay open into the early hours of the morning. The entertainment district covers just two blocks and every building is either a pub, club or bar. It claims to have more bars and pubs per square foot than any other street in North America.

Between its many establishments, there is something for every type of night owl on George Street. Settle into a cosy hole in the wall bar, sip designer drinks in a classy cocktail lounge and get your groove on at a nightclub.

The music scene on George Street is no less diverse. Jazz, rock, country, folk, karaoke and more can all be heard as you walk around. In fact, most of the venues have music playing well into the evening. See larger acts perform on the outdoor stage at Prince Edward Plaza, located near the eastern end of the street.

George Street hosts a number of massive parties during the year. The biggest event is the George Street Festival, which takes place every August. The six-night extravaganza features live music from popular acts from around the world. The annual Mardi Gras is held in October and is another huge event.

During festival times, admission to the street is by ticket only and attendees must be 19 years or over. For details of these parties and their prices, visit the street’s official website. There you will also find information about viewing areas for wheelchair users.

George Street is situated in the heart of downtown St. John’s and is open to pedestrians only during the afternoons and evenings. If you need a taxi to take you back to your accommodation after your partying, go to the west end of the street. There are plenty of taxis there and they operate at all hours.
