"Hotel was excellent, staff were helpful and friendly. Had an evening meal while nothing wrong with it as such it was only ok and felt portions were on the small side and was basic enough. Breakfast taste wise was only ok."

The Clonakilty Hotel

8/10 Good
"To say it’s rough around the edges is being kind. As a solo business traveller it is convenient and the second time I have stayed. Former IPAS centre and it shows. Little money has been spent on it to bring it back to a real hotel level. Continental breakfast was good. Parking is convenient. In the centre of the town and cheaper than other hotels around. Fine for me but if I brought the wife she would not be happy."

10/10 Excellent
"Words can not describe the absolutely stunning estate. The house has so many unique qualities its hard to consolidate. Great area for the kids to run outside while the adults relax and the outside table. Bunk room is perfect for kids. Game area with ping pong. So roomy that our 10 people never felt on top of each other. Plenty of bathrooms and showers. The views are absolutely amazing. Kinsale is now my favorite irish town. Love love love this place"

10/10 Excellent
"This was by far the nicest rental we have ever visited. The house was spotless, full of amenities, and had a breathtaking view. The hosts were incredibly welcoming, but we also had privacy. They were willing to show us the workings of the dairy farm, and we loved their very friendly dogs and cats."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Gearagh?
The best area to stay in Gearagh is typically in the nearby towns of Macroom or Inchigeelagh, as Gearagh itself is a nature reserve with no accommodation options.Macroom is a larger market town, conveniently located on the N22 road, making it a practical base for exploring the region. The town centre has a main street with various shops, pubs, and restaurants. It's about a 10-minute drive from the Gearagh nature reserve.Couples looking for a blend of convenience and access to nature will find Macroom suitable. It offers a wider choice of hotels and guesthouses, and you'll have more dining options for evenings. Its central location also makes it easy to access other attractions in County Cork.Inchigeelagh is a smaller, quieter village situated closer to the western edge of the Gearagh and on the banks of Lough Allua. This village is much more rural and offers a peaceful retreat. It has a few local pubs and guesthouses. For those prioritising a tranquil escape and direct access to areas popular for fishing or kayaking, Inchigeelagh is an excellent choice.
When is the best time to go to Gearagh?
The best time to go to Gearagh is typically from late spring to early autumn, specifically May through September, when the weather is mildest and the daylight hours are longest. For those keen on outdoor activities, especially hiking and exploring the unique submerged forest, these months offer the most comfortable conditions. The pathways are drier, and the chances of encountering heavy rainfall are reduced, making for a more pleasant experience. Wildlife spotting is also more common during this period, as many species are more active.Couples looking for a peaceful escape will find these months ideal. The longer days allow for extended walks through the ancient oak woodlands and along the River Lee, followed by relaxed evenings at local establishments. The natural beauty of Gearagh is at its peak, with lush greenery and blooming wildflowers.Families will also appreciate visiting during this window.
