Hello Kenneth. We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us. . We are the oldest continually running roadhouse in Alaska. We are more than happy to offer our guests fans in the summer and we have little heaters for when it starts cooling down. We wish you would have asked us. We do not have TV's in our rooms in the lodge, this is true. Most of our guest enjoy visiting with the locals in the bar, exploring the grounds and sitting by the river. Sharing bathrooms can be challenging but it also gives you an idea of how those traveling in the early 1900's experienced their stay in the lodge. We do offer room 10 in the lodge which has it's own private bathroom or we have cabins with their own bathroom available. The bar offers at least 15 Alaskan beers on tap and other drinks are available. The food options at the end of the season, I must admit were limited and we plan on expanding the food choices for breakfast. We just recently purchased the lodge (July 23') and we do hope that you will come back and stay with us again after we've had the opportunity to make some much needed improvements. Hello Patricia. Thank you for your reply. We are new owners as of July 15th. We apologize that there was not more of a selection during your stay. Muffins, oatmeal, and fruit should have been offered as well. As we settle in to our new role we hope things like this will not be an issue in the future.

Hello Sue. Our sincerest apologies. Our staff pulls sheets that look dull or old and discards them. I will speak with our housekeeping staff about this and assure you that our sheets are always clean. Regarding the bites, we've always had people tell us about the mosquitos here in Alaska but I've never had a complaint about bed bugs or fleas. We will look into this. Again, our sincerest apologies.

We apologize for the double booking. We just recently purchased the lodge on July 15 and started switching over to a new system as well. This caused us to have several (not all) of our rooms double booked. The room in the back we offered was our own. We were disappointed that this affected your stay but were more than willing to let you cancel your booking so there were no costs on your end. Our apologies again. As we make upgrades we hope you'll consider lodging with us in the future.

Hello. Thank you for your review. Because of your concerns expressed about the door not locking, we yesterday installed a new door knob with key so that no other guests would not feel the same way as you did. (We have also replaced the stop on the sliding barn door style bathroom door.) We decided it was much better to just take out the old antique knobs and replace them instead of losing other reservations. We were unable to rebook your room for the nights we refunded and it stinks to lose that income. Some lessons are learned the hard way when owning a small business. We hope you had a wonderful time the remainder of your trip in Alaska.

Hi Charles. Thank you for the review. We appreciate your feedback and like your suggestion about the small table. We had the small space heater removed and completely refurbished and reinstalled this Spring by a trained technician. You are correct that it does run on heating oil and even though it is properly vented they do sometimes have a slight odor. We do consistently monitor for leaks and make sure that you are protected and safe as our guest. We hope you enjoy the remainder of your time in Alaska.

Hi Russel, Thanks for your review. Our restaurant is only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday but we serve dinner nightly in our historic tavern. We consider it to have lots of character and from our other reviews most people really like the food and atmosphere. We apologize that your did not have the same great experience. We hand press our burgers and fresh cut our fries daily. It is not fine dining but we consider is upscale bar food. The new owners take over mid July and I'm certain they will bring their own ideas and experience to make the lodge an even more special place.

Hi Debby. I apologize that I didn't get to meet you in person during your stay here at out lodge. I noticed you stayed in Cabin 1. As other guests have noted, we are furnished with quilts, antiques and items from Alaska's history. We also have brand new towels and sheets. Your cabin has been updated in the past couple of years with a brand new refrigerator and coffee maker added just this season. As to address the darkness, I'm not sure what to say. It is a small cabin with 4 windows in the bedroom area and 1 window in the bathroom. I assume the black out curtains were closed upon your arrival, but there are also 2 lamps that may not have been on. If that is the case, then the darkness you note should have been quickly remedied. As for the mosquitos, they were horrible earlier in the summer but have really cleared up the past couple of weeks. I'm sorry you got a few bites, but I am surprised to hear that they came from inside that cabin. It is Alaska in the summer though, and there are mosquitos every where you will go. We have coils and natural repellant available to guests if they let us know there is an issue. I hope that you will find the rest of your time in Alaska enjoyable.
