"Stayed for one night. The room was a good size, quiet and warm. Unfortunately the mattress was very firm and not very comfortable. The bathroom was large but the water pressure and volume of water in the shower was very weak. Breakfast dinning area was very pleasant but the breakfast quality was poor. Staff were all pleasant and helpful. "

"I have stayed many times at this hotel and this will probably be the last time. I paid good money for a totally sleepless night and a very basic breakfast. When booking, I specifically asked for a room at the front of the hotel. I do so regularly, as I know from past experience that rooms, particularly the low even numbers can be noisy, so I was disappointed when arrived and was told that I was allocated Room 102. I told reception that I had bad memories of room 102 as I had stayed there in the past and it is the noisiest room in the hotel; which was why I had requested a room at the front. Reception was very unhelpful, completely unsympathetic and simply said there was nothing they could do. Room 102 lived up to my expectations, with unbearable loud noises from extractor fans and other machinery operating not far from the room window. I couldn't do any work because concentrating was impossible. I am a light sleeper - hence my request which was made when booking - and I couldn't get any sleep because of the constant racket from outside, which went on throughout the entire night. Breakfast next morning was a lacklustre affair. No fruit salad, no fresh fruit, no fried eggs on offer and the other breakfast items were fewer than is usually available and they were very slow to be replenished when they ran down. Check in the night before had been painfully slow and staff on reception were not helpful. I wouldn't want to go through this again and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. "

"Where do I start? Infestation of bedbugs seems appropriate. Had to leave middle of the night. The bed was crawling. Received no help from staff. There was only a number to call, voice on the other end said there was nothing she could do and that they’d had bedbugs on the ground floor before but never ours (room10). Now having to seek medical help for bites as we are covered. This property is clearly not taking hygiene or fumigation seriously. Horrendous experience. Have reported to environmental health with video and photographic footage."

"One of our best stays ever, from the moment we arrived we were welcomed with delicious whisky and our lovely room. All of the staff were exceptional and the location is perfect. One of the most comfortable beds ever! Wish we had longer."

"Excellent choice away from the rush of downtown but close enough for walking everywhere necessary. Lovely river walk or straight down the street to the middle of downtown and the train station. Clean modern rooms with a coffee service and fridge."

"Extremely disappointing stay. The room felt dirty, with sticky surfaces and a carpet that clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly. The overall condition was unacceptable. On top of that, the staff were unhelpful and unprofessional, which made the experience even worse. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone."

"The service was wonderful. The staff helped arrange things like taxis and a horse ride and made sure I got breakfast before an early morning tour (excellent scones!). They were especially accommodating on my last day when I was taking a late train, allowing me to shower and have a place to hang out for a little while in the late afternoon. The common areas feel historic but comfortable and well kept. The rooms are mostly updated but if you want a historic feel, be sure to request it. Pretty much all the rooms are a little different. There’s a lovely walled garden onsite and I got selfies with the Highland cows in the neighboring field. Just know that if you don’t have a car, it’s about a £12-14 cab ride from town. "
