Historic Charming Bungalow in the Heart of Old Town
Need a quiet getaway in the heart of Old Town Fort Collins? Let the Choice City Bungalow and our garden oasis be your home away from home.
Built in 1900, this charming 1 bedroom, 1 bath home with a newly updated kitchen tells the story of historic Fort Collins. Arrive at your private retreat through the screen door entrance, the gateway to a secret garden path. The house is situated on a quiet street, just a five-minute walk away to favorite Old Town shops, bars, restaurants, museums, popular performing arts venues, and our world-famous breweries. CSU is also located just a few blocks away. If you feel like reconnecting with nature, ride one of our bikes or take a relaxing stroll to City Park or the Poudre River. If you want to get a bit further around town, the MAX bus stop and several other city bus lines are just around the corner.
The Canino family, true Fort Collins locals and the former owners of the oldest Italian restaurant in Fort Collins, Canino’s Italian Restaurant, purchased this quaint house in 1978. Karen Canino, your host, is a recycle artist and former grade-school art teacher. Artist-Explorer Karen runs her recycled art shop and gallery Screen Door Studios Gallery established in 2008 from the front part of the property. Open most Saturdays. The business will not interfere with your stay in any way. You might find yourself wanting to purchase your hand made Fort Collins souvenirs right on site.
With great attention to detail, Karen lovingly and expertly curated the living space to reflect her travels around the world, eclectic style, love of art and knack for creating custom-made items out of found and recycled objects. Every piece in this home and garden has a story to tell and invites you to take a trip around the world. Bright colors show off molas created by the Kuna Indians of Panama, Oriental rugs provide luxurious softness, and original art turns this home into a miniature gallery. Dine seated at the vintage bench or al fresco at the table under the pergola in the whimsical backyard.
Hooked? Here are a few more details to help make your decision: • The full kitchen was updated in 2018. We provide all kitchen essentials including a dishwasher. • Locally sourced soap and other basic toiletries. • Full washer and dryer with essential cleaning products available. • Private driveway for you to park in. • Two bikes are available for your use! • The brass double bed sleeps two extremely comfortably (just read the reviews). We can also provide a twin size rollaway for an extra guest. • Summers can get hot in Fort Collins. To cool this house down sustainably, we invested in an attic fan – the most natural fit for the bungalow. We will teach you how to use it so you can enjoy a cool and relaxing stay. • WiFi • This unconventional home is best suited for adults and children over 8 years old. • Don’t forget, stop by the Screen Door Studio to bring home a one-of-a-kind handmade Fort Collins souvenir!

This was a lovely place to stay, great location and such a neat accommodation. This will be our first place to reserve for any more future trips to Fort Collins.
This was our second stay here. It's the perfect home base for a Fort Collins visit. Easy walk to Old Town or to campus, delightful outdoor garden table for when the weather is nice, house full of charming and thoughtful touches.
The Bungalow is in a great location in the historic part of town. Located near old downtown and CSU. The bungalow is clean, quiet, cozy and has off street parking. Communication with the host was excellent. Would stay here again.
I had the perfect stay for a couple of nights, and this home is perfect!!! It is fully equipped with everything you need, extremely comfortable, and within walking distance of Old Town. I would highly recommend staying here!!
This is my 2nd stay here in the 'Choice City Bungalow' now and I am so thankful for this wonderful find! Very clean on the inside and as charming as the day is long on the outside, the house is very well appointed and very comfortable to stay in. I particularly loved the old Frigidaire oven. Vintage and easy to use; they don't make 'em like that anymore :) This is a great place to stay and a very comfortable, convenient location.
A perfect, cozy place for two.The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals.Walking distance to downtown.Pretty yard for outdoor time.Highly recommend this bungalow!
We loved this house with all it's cute charm. The patio was so peaceful to spend enjoying our morning tea. Not far from downtown, within walking distance. Parking was on the street or the driveway. Great communication with the owner. Will definitely be back again!
The Bungalow is conveniently located just a few blocks from Old Town. It was perfectly decorated and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. And it was immaculately clean.
Karen is a wonderful host and we definitely plan to stay at the Bungalow again!
This little bungalow is perfect for a couple. Close to Oldtown. Karen was very nice and helpful and the place was very clean. I would highly recommend.
Choice City Bungalow was one of our favorite stays yet. Not only was the house clean and comfortable, with everything we needed, it was filled with art and vintage soul. Many stays are well equipped and clean, but have no soul. This bungalow felt like home. The patio and garden were lovely, and the location was great (try Lucile’s Creole Cafe two blocks away!) Last but not least, Karen greeted us and was very helpful and communicative. We’ll definitely return!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the bungalow! It is well equipped and beautifully appointed with unique artwork. We took advantage of the outside space for all of our meals. Karen is a great host.
Has a great time. It was in a peaceful neighborhood. Reminded me of Grandmas yet with today’s conveniences. Very comfortable. Only complaint was the mattress was a bit soft and sagged in the middle.
Super clean, cozy and tucked away in the best part of downtown. Walking distance to campus and restaurants. Very easy check in and check out. EV charger a block away. We completely enjoyed Bohemian bungalow.
This place is adorable and comfortable. Great location. I appreciated the coffee and creamer waiting on me and the place was well stocked with paper towels etc. It was a very pleasant surprise when I didn’t have to do anything prior to checkout. Highly recommend.
Karen’s sweet bungalow has been our home away from home in Fort Collins on more than one occasion. Karen is the perfect hostess and the bungalow has everything we need while traveling - perfect location and all the amenities! We will continue to choose to stay in the bungalow when it's available for our trips!
We so enjoyed our two week stay in this special place! This 100 plus year old Bungalow was super clean, provided all we needed in the kitchen, laundry, bath and bedroom. It was also so creatively and colorfully decorated! This property was so close to all the fun in downtown Fort Collins and we could get there on the bikes that were available to us at the Bungalow!
Karen is such a lovely host. Very friendly and helpful. The bungalow is great with everything you need for a special stay. Super location. Very quiet but only two blocks from a wonderful breakfast place and walking distance to downtown.
Don’t miss the artwork and colour around the place which helps make it so special.
The property description gives a good sense of the property: it is small and wouldn't take more than 2 people, it is charming and creatively decorated with artsy and vintage pieces, the yard is a bit unkempt but has a lovely sitting area for outdoor dining. The cottage is within 5 minutes walk of Lucille's (nice breakfast / lunch place) and 15 minutes walk of either Old Town with all the restaurants and shops, or CSU. We enjoyed it and would happily stay again.
The house has everything you need. Great space, fun design, funky garden, and comfortable. Easy walking (or biking!) distance to Old Town and public transit. Quiet, exceptionally clean, and lovely. Host was quick to respond and helpful.
I expected my stay at Karen's cottage to be wonderful, and I was not disappointed. From the fresh flowers to the spotless kitchen, everything was absolutely A+. Being surrounded by art and funky decorative items made the experience a joy. I was able to cook a full meal in the kitchen and enjoy it outside with guests under the arbor. If you want a relaxing and lovely getaway in Fort Collins, in a location that is easily walkable from campus or Old Town, this is a great choice.
Great accommodation in a quiet neighborhood--walking distance to Old Town and to CSU. The "bungalow" is part of a house. The front is a gallery with occasional hours. Lovely attention to detail with the decor, a well stocked kitchen, very comfortable brass bed and lots of hot water. A garden that is probably wonderful to hang out in during warmer weather. Karen was an excellent host. I will be back!
