"We turned up at the hotel for a 3nights extended bank holidays weekend just to find out that the hotel was privatised and fully booked with nowhere to sleep in town or in the neighbouring villages !!! Owner refused to speak to Hotels.com since apparently he has only signed a contract with Expedia (but didn’t acknowledge it was the same company!) and refused to speak English... Hotels.com was not able to sort it out not find anywhere else and we had to drive back home 3hrs in the other direction...

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Fontaines-Les-Sèches?
The best area to stay in Fontaines-Les-Sèches is within the village itself, particularly around the central square and the Rue de l'Église.

This area is the heart of Fontaines-Les-Sèches, offering a genuine taste of rural Bourgogne. You'll find the local boulangerie, a small grocery shop, and a couple of traditional restaurants here. The village is compact and easy to navigate on foot, with stone houses and narrow lanes. The Église Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul, a historic church, is a prominent landmark.

For couples seeking a quiet retreat, staying in a guesthouse or a small hotel within the village centre is ideal. It provides a relaxed base for exploring the surrounding vineyards and enjoying peaceful evenings. You'll be able to stroll to dinner and experience the local pace of life.

Families looking for a relaxing holiday will also find the village centre appealing. Many gites (holiday homes) in this area offer more space and amenities, such as gardens.
When is the best time to go to Fontaines-Les-Sèches?
The best time to visit Fontaines-Les-Sèches is from late spring to early autumn, specifically May through to September, for the most pleasant weather and activities.

During these months, the weather is generally warm and sunny, superb for exploring the vineyards and enjoying outdoor activities. May and June offer lush greenery and blooming landscapes, while July and August are the warmest, ideal for leisurely afternoons at outdoor cafes or by the pool. September provides the grape harvest, a great experience with cooler, crisp air and stunning autumn colours.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will find May, June, and September particularly appealing. These months offer a balance of good weather and fewer crowds than the peak summer months, allowing for more intimate wine-tasting tours and quiet strolls through the countryside. The mild temperatures are also ideal for exploring the local markets and historic sites.

For those interested in experiencing the region's culinary delights and wine culture, late August and September are excellent. This period coincides with the grape harvest, and many local events and festivals celebrate the season's bounty.
