Depending on where you're coming from, your flight to Whistler could be completely stress-free or it could drag on forever. We've put together some useful tips that will help you start your next great escape on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• A plane ride can be a pleasure if you've got all the right gear. Firstly, you'll need toiletry items, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a clean pair of socks and a good novel. Secondly, find room in your carry-on bag for your electronic devices, chargers, any vital medications and maybe a cosy neck pillow as well. • Be sure to have your travel documents and ID within easy reach. They'll be the first things you'll be asked to show at airport security.
• Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your coat, belt, keys and other small items, like your earphones, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them before your turn.

• Any liquids or gels, such as lip balm or cologne, that you want to bring on board need to be in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres). They must also all fit inside a quart-size (one litre), clear zip-close bag.
• Choosing your footwear wisely can save you several minutes. Boots are often required to be removed and X-rayed separately. Lightweight sneakers are usually not.
• Sharp or pointed items are not allowed on board. They'll be seized at security, so pack them in your checked suitcase.
