Depending on where you're coming from, your journey to Upper Economy could be a breeze or it could drag on forever. Below are some useful travel tips that will help you start your next great adventure on a positive note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Air travel can be a cruisy experience if you carry the right gear. Firstly, you'll want some toiletry items, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a spare pair of socks and a magazine or two. Secondly, find a spot in your bag for your phone and charger, medications and maybe a cosy neck pillow as well. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to take your passport, travel docs and your bank cards.

• While the list of prohibited items can differ between air carriers, the general rule of thumb is nothing sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes things like screwdrivers, drills, spray paint and fireworks. Sporting equipment like baseball bats, and objects that could harm passengers, such as firearms and ammunition, aren't allowed in the cabin either.

• Caused by lengthy periods of inactivity, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clotting condition that can affect some passengers during long flights. Reduce the risks by staying hydrated, keeping your ankles and legs moving and wearing compression tights or socks.

• Keep your boarding pass and passport close by. They'll be the first things you'll be asked for by airport security.
• After that, both you and your carry-on luggage will be X-rayed. To speed things up, take off anything that might trigger the alarms. Items like your belt, jacket and headphones need to go through the machine.
• Electronic devices like laptops and phones will also have to go through the machine to be scanned. No need to worry though, you'll be back online before you know it.
• Can't travel without your favourite hand cream? Not a problem. As long as the volume is no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a zip-close bag, it's OK to bring with you in your carry-on baggage.
• Slip-on shoes are a good footwear choice as you're less likely to be required to remove them when going through security. Boots and other bulky shoes are usually subjected to additional screening.
• Pocket knives and other sharp items can't be taken on board. They'll be confiscated at security, so pack them in your checked baggage.
