Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you're well organised. We've put together a list of handy hints that will get your Penrose holiday started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- It's easy — first, pack your passport, travel docs, bank cards and daily medications. Next, you'll want some entertainment to help pass the time. A juicy novel and a tablet crammed with your favourite movies are some fantastic options. If you plan to take a short nap, a neck pillow and a pair of noise-cancelling headphones will also be useful. Finally, squeeze in a toothbrush and some facial wipes so you'll hop off the plane looking fresh and raring to go.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of banned items differs between airlines, the general guide to follow is avoid carrying anything sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes screwdrivers, pocket knives, fuels and bleaching agents. Sports equipment like baseball bats, and objects that could harm other people, such as pepper spray and firearms, aren't allowed in the cabin either.
What to wear on a flight:
- The aisles of an aircraft aren't the place for a fashion parade. Dress in comfortable layers and pick shoes that are flat, enclosed and easy to take on and off.
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can pose a risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clotting due to poor circulation and inactivity, so do some gentle leg and foot exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression socks or tights.
