Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a seamless experience if you're prepared. We've compiled a list of handy tips and tricks that will get your Paradise holiday started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• It's simple — first, pack in your passport, official ID, wallet and daily medications. Next, you'll want some in-flight entertainment to while away the hours. A juicy book and a tablet filled with your favourite shows are some fantastic options. If you hope to catch more than just forty winks, a neck pillow and some noise-cancelling headphones will also come in handy. Finally, leave some space for a toothbrush and some deodorant to ensure you touchdown looking fresh and raring to go.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Leave all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hair gel in your checked baggage. Any liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) won't be allowed on. Pointed or sharp objects, like your precious pocket knife, and dangerous products which are explosive or flammable, such as flares, chemicals agents and fuels, are also restricted.

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your top priority when choosing what to wear on board. Loose, breathable clothing is a sensible choice, as are roomy, closed-toe shoes.
• Most travellers are aware of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by long periods of inactivity. To reduce your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression tights or socks and do gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat.

• Airport security personnel first need to make sure that you have a valid ID and matching travel documents before anything else. Keep them close by.
• Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your belt, jacket, keys and other contents of your pockets, like your earphones, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them before your turn arrives.
• For just a few moments, you'll need to unplug from technology. Your laptop, phone and any other electronics must also be sent through the scanner.
• Any gels or liquids, such as perfume or toothpaste, that you want to take on board must be no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres). They must also all fit inside a quart-size (one litre), clear zip-lock bag.
• It's also possible you'll be asked to remove your shoes for scanning, so wearing slip-on shoes is always a wise idea.
• Airlines won't allow any sharp or pointed objects to come on board with you. If you must bring these kinds of items, pack them in your checked luggage.
