If you're not prepared, air travel can be tough. But there's no need to panic. Follow these tips and tricks and enjoy a hassle-free start to your holiday in Pacific. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Flying can be a cruisy experience if you've got all the right things. First of all you'll need basic toiletries, such as lip balm and hand cream, a clean set of clothes and something to read. • Caused by sustained periods of immobility, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot condition that can affect some passengers on long-haul flights. Lower your risks by staying hydrated, keeping your legs moving and wearing compression socks or tights.

• Security personnel first need to make sure that you have a valid passport and travel documents before you're allowed to proceed any further. Keep them close by.

• Don't forget to remove liquids and gels from your carry-on luggage. They usually need to be sent through the X-ray scanner separately. Each item should be in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and everything must fit inside a quart-size (one litre), clear zip-lock bag.
• Lightweight sneakers are a sensible footwear choice as you're less likely to have to remove them when going through security. Safety boots and other heavy-style shoes are usually subjected to extra screening.
• Airlines will not allow any sharp objects in your hand luggage. If you need to bring these kinds of items, check them in.
