Wherever you're coming from, flying can be a pleasant experience if you've planned ahead. We've put together a list of handy travel tips that will help get your Jay holiday started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Air travel can be a comfortable experience if you pack the right stuff. Sharp objects, like your Swiss Army knife, and dangerous goods which are flammable or explosive, such as spray paint, flares and fuels, are also banned.

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your top priority when deciding what to wear on board. Loose clothing is a smart option, as are flat, slip-on shoes.
• Most of us have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by long periods of inactivity. To reduce your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression socks or tights and keep your feet and legs moving.

The trick is to be organised before you reach security. That way, you'll be hopping onto that plane to Jay in no time flat. Follow these helpful tips and get your holiday off to a spectacular start:

• Airport security personnel first need to check that you have a valid passport and boarding pass before anything else. Have them ready for inspection.
• The X-ray machine comes next. Remove anything on you that is likely to set off the scanner's alarm. This includes items like headphones or earphones, as well as bulky coats or jackets. They'll need to be placed on the conveyor belt for screening.

• Airlines won't allow any pocket knives or other sharp items in your carry-on luggage. If you must bring these kinds of items, pack them in your checked baggage.
