• A plane trip can be a comfortable experience if you take the right gear. • Comfort should be your priority when deciding what to wear on board. Loose clothing is a smart option, as are roomy, closed-toe shoes.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by extended periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Walk around the cabin and give your legs a stretch or do some simple exercises in your seat to improve your circulation.

The trick is to be well prepared before you get to the security gate. That way, you'll be hopping onto that plane to Ireland before you know it. Follow these tips and get your trip off to a great start:

• Be sure to have your boarding pass and passport close by. They'll be the first things you'll be asked to present to security.
• The X-ray machine comes next. Remove anything metal on you that is likely to set off the alarm. This includes things like earphones or headphones, as well as heavy coats or jackets. They'll need to be placed on the conveyor belt for screening.
