• A plane trip can be a cruisy experience if you carry the right things. Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Double-check that you don't have sharp objects (like a knife or scissors) hiding in one of the zippers of your carry-on luggage. Other banned items include explosive or flammable products, such as fuel and matches, and gels and liquids in containers larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres).

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your main priority when choosing what to wear on your flight. Loose clothing is a sensible option, as are enclosed shoes like sneakers.
• Most of us have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by long periods of inactivity. To lessen your risk on board, drink plenty of water, consider wearing compression tights or socks and move your lower limbs often.

• Airport security personnel first need to see that you have a valid passport and travel documents before anything else. Have them ready for inspection.
• Your belt, jacket, keys and other items in your pocket, like your earphones, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them before your turn arrives.
• For just a few minutes, you'll have to unplug from technology. Your tablet, phone and any other electronic gadgets also need to go through the scanner.
• Any gels or liquids, such as perfume or hand cream, that you want to take on board need to be in containers no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres). They must also all fit inside a quart-size (one litre), clear zip-lock bag.
• Slip-on shoes are a clever footwear choice as you're less likely to be asked to remove them when passing through security. Boots and heavier-style shoes are usually subjected to additional screening.
• Airlines will not allow any sharp objects in the cabin. If you must bring these kinds of items, pack them in your checked luggage.
