We've rounded up all the info you need to make your flight a pleasant experience. Follow our insider tips and you'll be speeding through airport security and enjoying Au in no time at all. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• First things first, pack in your passport, official ID, credit cards and vital medications. Next, you'll want some extra in-flight entertainment to while away the time. A juicy book and a tablet crammed with your favourite movies are some great options. If you hope to catch more than just forty winks, a comfy neck pillow and a pair of earplugs will also be useful. Finally, squeeze in a toothbrush and some deodorant so you'll arrive feeling fresh and ready to go.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• While the list of prohibited items differs between air carriers, the general guide to follow is nothing sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes screwdrivers, pocket knives, spray paint and fireworks. Sporting equipment like ski poles, and objects that could injure passengers, such as pepper spray and firearms, won't be allowed on board either.

What to wear on a flight:

• The aisles of an aircraft aren't the place for a fashion parade. Don comfortable layers and go for shoes that are flat and easy to pull on and off.
• The result of lengthy periods of inactivity, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot condition that can affect some passengers during long flights. Lower your risks by staying hydrated, keeping your legs and feet moving and wearing compression socks or tights.

A little pre-planning before you arrive at the airport will make your trip to Au easy and painless. Here are some useful tips and tricks for a swift journey through security:

• Airport security personnel first need to check that you have a valid ID and travel documents before you can proceed any further. Keep them close by.
• Your coat, belt, keys and other items in your pocket, like your earphones, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them as it gets closer to your turn.
• Your electronic gadgets like phones and laptops will also need to go on a tray to be scanned. Don't worry though, you'll be back online soon enough.
• Travelling with your favourite hand and nail cream? As long as the volume is no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a clear zip-lock bag, it's OK to bring with you in your carry-on baggage.
• There's a good chance you'll be required to remove your shoes to be X-rayed, so wearing slip-on shoes is always a clever idea.
• Airlines will not allow any sharp or pointed objects to come on board with you. If you must bring these kinds of items, check them in.
