About this property
Dairy Song: For the musicians, artists, travellers, lovers of birdlife, yoga ...
This historic family dairy near Nabiac is nestled in the hills between Forster, Taree and Gloucester. It became a music studio where songs flew between Nashville, LA, and Firefly* but today, is a freshly renovated spacious cottage under a towering Morton Bay fig tree where you can get creative or just kick back, relax and explore our property or nearby attractions of the lower mid north coast.
Birdwatchers - take note! There's a free album to anyone who can add another bird species to our list of more than 50 birds spotted on our 50 acres! Alternatively head to the nearby sandy beaches of Tuncurry, Forster or Blackhead, the mountain backdrops of Gloucester and Barrington, or the mighty Manning River of Taree.
Our hill is only 15 minutes off the Pacific Highway at Nabiac. Dairy Song studio features one large bedroom with queen size bed (& an optional fold-out bed for a child - $20 / night), a kitchen/dining room, and a rustic bathroom. Tinkle the ol' ivories on an heirloom piano or classic Fender Rhodes, curl up in front of the fireplace to read or watch TV (Netflix and On Demand TV available), access the Wifi, check out the sunrise or sunset from the decks outside, stretch out with some yoga on the decks or some hammock time, enjoy the outdoor hot/cold shower under the fig tree (day or night!), head out for a walk along our pathways, play some of our games (supplied) or gaze in wonder at the star-filled night sky.
Breakfast options include a fridge stocked with fresh local free range eggs, milk, tea, coffee, etc. Dinner can be sourced nearby from Krambach or Nabiac Hotels, or you are welcome to use the BBQ and well-equipped kitchen facilities provided.
Up to 2 small to medium size friendly dogs are welcome. Tick protection is recommended and note that although it's unlikely, we do not guarantee the more curious dogs won't find a way through the fence! We have a very friendly border collie who will be happy to befriend you or your dog, if his company is sought.
Always respecting your privacy, our own house where we live with our two children is less than 100m away, should you need anything at all.

Stayed 3 nights with our dog Roxy. A nice quiet spot. Loved the outdoor shower. Showering at night in the open felt very invigorating. Loved the coffee pod machine. Overall our stay was quiet and comfortable. We were very relaxed when we left.
The home is so serene and peaceful. My partner and I loved the farm atmosphere. Dairysong was clean and cosy, with the host providing us with eggs, butter and milk, as well as plenty of firewood. If you’re on the fence, I’d suggest giving it a go! Bec and her family are great hosts!
We had such a wonderfully relaxing stay at Dairy Song, Rebecca and her partner are lovely and welcoming hosts as well as Steve the dog. We have two greyhounds who really enjoyed the huge space to run around in and explore! This spot is in an ideal location, only 30mins from Forster and some of the surrounding beaches like Cellito and blackhead back beach. Rebecca gave us some amazing suggestions for food, Nabiac is only a 15min drive away and has lots of food options plus the motorbike museum! And yes you can take your dogs in! All in all, we had a wonderful time and would love to stay again to dsicover more of barrington coast! Thank you Rebecca, Hughie and Steve for being such wonderful hosts!
If you’re looking for a place where you can completely switch off and relax and immerse yourself in the peaceful surroundings then Dairy Song is the place. The accommodation is spacious and comfortable. The wonderful hosts have provided everything for a self sufficient stay. The slow combustion fire in the bedroom is beautiful. The interior decoration is tastefully unique. The hosts afforded us all the privacy and were friendly when we caught up with them in the garden. Many different species of birds were spotted. I appreciated the vase full of Camellias on the kitchen table. An elegant and thoughtful touch. We’re looking forward to a return visit.
Dairy Song cottage was just as the photos and description online promised. My partner and I wanted to chill out somewhere quiet and peaceful for a few days and this is exactly what we did with our two dogs. The cottage was very clean and tidy as were the cutlery, pots and pans. There were fresh eggs and butter in the fridge and we were soon gifted with a lovely warm loaf of bread from our host. The coffee machine put to use and provided us with very tasty cuppa's. There are many music studio quirks about the place and a beautiful old piano that I enjoyed playing.....well....making sound on. The bathroom has great character and the shower is wonderful....good water pressure and heat. I loved the outdoor shower too! Who doesn't like nuding up in the outdoors? Our dogs loved running around outside and up the hill with the hosts lively border collie, Steve. The enormous fig tree beside the cottage gives welcome shade and it also has a swing hanging from a branch high above. Naturally I had to have a go. I'm not as good as I was when I was a kid, but it was still heaps of fun. We highly recommend Dairy Song and will return early next year. Thanks so much to Rebecca and Hughie for providing us with such a wonderful, peaceful stay.
Cosy little studio. Clean with basic grocery items. Nice and quiet in rutal surrounds.
Helpful and friendly hosts.
Fenced yard for our dog.
Overall a lovrly relaxing stay.
Hi Rebecca, thank you for making our stay at Dairy Song so enjoyable. We had a delightful time as did Dinah our staffy, meeting and playing with stevie. If and when we head your way again hopefully the cottage will be available,
Cheers
Will
My girlfriend and I stayed for 3 nights in this beautiful place. We came from Sydney to relax and to have a bit of a getaway which it was absolutely perfect for. If you’re looking to be more active, there’s plenty to do in and around the area. Rebecca was an excellent host and was so generous and kind. Couldn’t recommend Firefly more.
This certainly was one of my most relaxing holidays. After an extremely busy term, I booked a holiday at Dairy Song to relax, refresh and rejuvenate. Needless to say, my husband, our beautiful Bagel and myself had the most wonderful time. The place was very peaceful, quiet and fresh. We had everything we needed (the studio was surprisingly spacious - I expected a much smaller place) and the place was neat and tidy. There were many beautiful places to explore which were all less than an hour’s drive away. Most importantly, our Bagel had enjoyed playing and running around with Steve, the resident border collie. Thank you very much Rebecca for being such an excellent host. We would definitely love to come back.
We expected, wanted and got some quirkiness but not at the expense of comfort etc. We enjoyed being able to use the AC for a bit of heat in the chilly evenings, the visits from Steve the border collie, and the cackling K,ookaburras. it was nice being away from the road, so it was peaceful until the rain hit the tin roof - but ear plugs are provided for the faint hearted.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.
A haven of peace and tranquility for us and our dog
Quirky, very comfortable property situated in rural NSW with stunning views all around. Pretty much the only sounds were birdsong, the odd moo, and the breeze rustling the trees. A wonderful escape from busy city life. We absolutely love this place and will definitely be back. Lovely friendly hosts (and host dog Steve who our dog loved playing with), and enjoyed patting the resident horse Colin. Fresh butter, eggs and milk in the fridge on our arrival. Perfect weekend away :)
We were just looking for a place to sleep over for a couple of nights so we could attend a local wedding. This rustic, music themed studio with every convenience (plus pay tv) made us wish we booked for a couple of weeks. Situated on a dairy farm surrounded by rolling hills this is a nice cosy retreat for a couple and a great home base after some day tripping .
Just what we needed. Dairy Song is the ideal country getaway, providing a cosy and comfortable farm stay with easy access to the many coastal or rural attractions in the area. We enjoyed our time very much.
We had a great time whilst staying here (4 nights)! Accommodation was clean, neat & tidy, with all the basics for a great relaxing stay. Set it a great rural area, just out of Nabiac, NSW.
Venturing out each day to explore the surrounding areas & returning each day to be greeted by "Steve" (the border collie), who was great company for our dog.
With NBN access to keep in touch with the world (or not) & of-course there is also the very friendly "Colin", the farms horse, who loves apples.
Highly Recommend, for either a secluded getaway or a base camp for exploring the area, with everything you need.
Great stay- will definitely be back. Spike, our schnauzer, loved Steve the rounder-upper. This is a special place and you can see the personality of the owners everywhere. Special touches and very accommodating hosts. The fridge was full of thoughtful little things like butter, eggs & jam. Loved it!
Beautiful location
Welcoming guests greeted us with glowing combustion fire, freshly baked bread, chocolates.
Very comfortable and offered more than what we needed. Scenic drive along Buckets Way the next day.
Diary Song was quiet, secluded and private. Oh, the bird song is a full chorus in the mornings- delightful!
Beautifully renovated studio that had everything we needed. We were greeted by Hughie who had a fresh loaf of bread for us! When we came back after the first day we had a litre of milk waiting for us on our doorstep. Fridge was stocked with eggs and butter and kitchen had all the condiments we needed plus a coffee machine complete with coffee pods. My husband and I stayed with our 3 year old son on what was forecast to be a rainy week so Bec came up with kids board games, kids books and bubbles. Such a beautiful family who were so welcoming and accomodating we even got invited to drinks and dinner one night during our stay! Our son loooved his stay and stowed away a Batman dress up suit that was generously given to him. Needless to say we had a wonderful time not only exploring the area but the experiencing the warm hospitality thanks to Bec and Hughie. The connection to and love of music resonates throughout the property. Overall highly recommended! We will be back..
We had lovely holidays. Our hostess Rebecca was very friendly and helpful.
Everything was well organised. We enjoyed our holidays, specially that we could bring our dog. The owner’s dog is very friendly border collie - good company for our poodle. We would like to come back and we will also recommend this very nice holiday place to our friends.
My wife and I spent five beautiful relaxing days at the Dairy Song cottage at Firefly. Even though it is in the heart of the countryside it is still very close to the beachside town of Forster. We would recommend a visit to the Nabiac Farmers markets - a very sociable affair with very friendly people. We also enjoyed country drives to the towns of Stroud and Gloucester. Our Hosts Rebecca and Hughie were excellent and their dog Steve was a big hit with our two Jack Russell's. We are looking forward to our next trip to Firefly.
The space is bigger than it appears in the picture. There is a lovely view just up the hill. It's a nice place and Rebecca even gave us freshly baked scones! She was also kind enough to let us do a wash. We left our jackets and Hughie kindly posted them to us. Steve, the dog, is very cute.
