Bears cottage is beautifully renovated and well equipped. It has a lovely garden. It is located in a quiet village with easy access to the surrounding areas. Great location for walking in the Cotswolds. Enjoyed the Motor Museum and the music at the Fleece Barn.
Beautiful cottage fully equipped with everything we could have needed for a week away. Lovely, quiet country village with close access to lots of National Trust properties and other places to visit - of which we took full advantage!
The only things I would note for future visitors is to take an eyemask if you like to sleep in the pitch black (like me) as there is a very bright light outside the front bedroom which shines all night long. Also, for anyone with sound sensitivities, the church next door does chime the hour, every hour, including through the night, and in the nice weather with the windows open it was quite loud at the dead of night. This isn't a problem if you don't have sound sensitivity issues though.
We did have a wonderful stay and Phil and Susan couldn't have been more helpful and kind.
I'd definitely stay again in the future
Absolutely fabulous!! Lovely cottage with all you needed, things you didn't know you wanted and more...The hosts were wonderful, communication was a breeze, very prompt with responses. We had a fantastic stay and next time we're in England, we will be staying again.
The ultimate family vacation! This beautiful cottage was perfect for our family of four (including two boys ages 11 and 13)The cottage was tastefully decorated and very clean. It offered all the amenities that our family required. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well-equipped. Susan and Phil were perfect hosts from start to finish. Susan was very responsive to all of our planning questions and Phil checked on us several times during our stay.
The village... Oh the darling village! We fell in love with Bretforton. The village people are so friendly and welcoming. By the end of our short stay many of the towns people knew our children by name and greeted us during our daily walks. The village is very safe and has plenty of parking. The community store was a great asset, in the mornings our children would walk across the street and get delicious pastries for breakfast and other snacks for our day trips. The location is absolutely perfect for exploring all of the other villages in the Cotswolds. The town pub, the Fleece Inn was unforgettable. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. It was delightful to enjoy a pint and talk with the locals. One evening we enjoy live traditional English music performed by local musicians. Reservations are recommended.
Overall this was a trip of a lifetime. We can’t wait to stay at the Bears Cottage again. Five star service and accommodations that our family will never forget.
Based on previous reviews, we had high expectations for our stay at Bear's Cottage. It exceeded them thanks to Susan's and Phil's attention to so many details, large and small, all appreciated. Plus a lovely little garden in bloom in June.
We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage.
Lovely, peaceful location.
Great location for nipping to nearby villages - within 30 mins to most townships.
Immaculately clean and homely accommodation.
Very helpful hosts.
Truely marvelous. The cottage was out of this world. Everything functioned to perfection and the “instruction folder” made life very easy. The “welcome gift” upon arrival is a lovely gesture, especially after a long, tiring car journey to reach Bretforton. The recipe for the fruit cake was a thoughtful touch and the actual cake was delicious. The cottage had a fantastic atmosphere and we could feel that Susan and Phil have put their hearts and souls into the renovation process. The villagers were extremely friendly and the community shop was a lifesaver. A large range of items including gifts and at a competitive price. We’ve rented a number of holiday cottages over the years and Bear’s Cottage is now at the top of our list as far as value for money, location and holiday satisfaction are concerned.
Fondest regards,
Ian, Anette and Justine (the danish family)
We had the pleasure of staying here the last week in May. The cottage was lovely, spotlessly clean and finished to such a high standard! You can really tell the love Phil and Sue have for the cottage.
We had a mixed bag with the weather, so when it was sunny and warm we made the most of sitting in the beautiful garden, and when it was raining we had lovely cosy nights in!
The village itself was everything you would imagine a Cotswolds village to be! The Fleece Inn pub was a big hit with us, good ale selection, wonderful food, and a real community feel.
We had such a lovely stay here, and we would definitely come back again!
Bears Cottage was the perfect 'roost' for us. We had dreadful weather during our stay so our accommodation was even more important. The comfort, immaculate and beautifully restored and well furnished rooms (very comfy, large sofa and a great armchair) the attractively quaint character of the building (unusual spaces cleverly turned into cupboards) and the whole ambience of the village location compensated for the lack of intended exploration of the Cotswolds. The pretty and private garden is a real bonus, as is the friendly village shop across the road. The church is beside the cottage and we knew in advance that the bell tolled the hour on the hour, but it didn't bother us at all, in fact we were delighted when the bell ringers had a day time practice session - it was a real treat while the rain fell outside. The wonderful Fleece pub is something else! Its ancient walls could tell many tales. Although we did not eat there, we sampled the beers and saw some of meals being served - they looked delicious. Phil and Susan are model hosts. Phil came to welcome us and talked us through aspects of the cottage although the instruction manuals and guide notes were comprehensive and we had no problems at all. Susan left us a welcoming (and much appreciated) cake, milk and tea, so we were able to feel at home immediately. Lastly, the decor of the cottage, not least the bedrooms and beautifully tiled contemporary shower room, is tasteful, clever and relaxing. We loved it! (We should have asked why it is called Bears Cottage but forgot) Thank you, Phil and Susan.

Quiet comfort in a lovely village
Bear's cottage is an attractive and beautifully restored property in a quiet village. Though of a compact size, it is comfortably furnished and the kitchen and bathroom facilities are spotless and up-to-date. The small, beautiful garden gets the sun in the morning, and is a delightful place to sit. Parking is on the road, which is generally quiet and was not a problem. The proximity of the friendly village shop and The Fleece gastro-pub (each a two-minute walk) add further convenience to this cosy property. We found the owners welcoming and approachable.

Quiet village, great location for exploring the Cotswolds
Welcoming hosts, lovely, warm and comfortable characterful cottage with great facilities. Historical local pub. Easy access to lovely Cotswolds, Warwickshire and Gloucester locations, including villages like Broadway and Chipping Campden. Evesham is lovely with great museum and pretty historical buildings. Towns like Stratford on Avon, Tewkesbury, Gloucester are worth visiting. We also visited the British Motor Museum which is well worth a visit. All in all, a fantastic stay.

Delightful cottage. Great hosts and fantastic stay
Very good impression from the off. Fast last minute booking. Handled very well... cottage perfectly clean with all mod cons. Perfectly situated in the heart of the small village. Directly opposite a village shop (rare in small Cotswold villages), and less than a minutes walk to a cracking free house (the fleece).
Cottage was spotless and very much an arrive and relax environment. Credit to the owners for renovating the cottage in such good taste.

25 Days of Great Experience in a Well Designed and Perfectly Manage Cottage
My wife and I stayed at the cottage for 25 days. We found the cottage to perfectly reflect the written descriptions and the beauty of the village. Our hosts did everything possible to make us comfortable and went well beyond what we had expected. For instance, the cottage was nicely decorated for Christmas and there was holiday bread baked in the kitchen. The fresh flowers and immaculate cleanliness made us smile. The appliances and tidy kitchen made it easy to prepare meals. The bathroom reflects the amenities in a nice hotel with a great shower. The beds were comfortable with nice quality sheets, pillows and duvets. The furnishings are simple but perfectly comfortable. The wifi is super fast and the television has cable stations. We also loved the little village store with fresh backed breads and necessaries. We were also invited to functions of the Bretforton Social Club across the street. We spent our days hiking and exploring the nearby towns and villages. We also went to the Shakespeare Theater in nearby Stratford-upon-Avon. There is also football (soccer) played at every level in nearby cities. We also visited the British Motoring Museum which was a plus. Recommend having a car for this visit ( very easy parking) and enthusiasm to explore. The people of the Midlands are friendly and eager to meet you. The history of the area will overwhelm you. We loved the nearby of Evesham as a place of great history, and many great places to explore.
