The best area to stay in Elmenthal is the Altstadt (Old Town), which offers a central location and easy access to the town's main attractions.

The Altstadt is the historic heart of Elmenthal, characterised by its narrow cobbled streets and well-preserved medieval buildings. You'll find many independent shops, traditional taverns, and cafes here. The central market square, Marktplatz, is a focal point, often hosting local events, and the imposing Elmenthal Castle is just a short walk up the hill.

Couples often find the Altstadt particularly appealing. Its romantic setting, with opportunities for leisurely strolls and intimate dinners, makes it a wonderful base for a memorable getaway. Many hotels in this area are housed in historic buildings, offering a unique charm.

For travellers who appreciate convenience and a quiet atmosphere, the area immediately surrounding Kurpark (Spa Park) on the western edge of the Altstadt is an excellent option.

The best time to visit Elmenthal is during May, June, and September, when the weather is pleasant for outdoor activities and exploring.

These months offer comfortable temperatures, typically ranging from 15°C to 22°C, with less rainfall compared to the summer peak. This makes it ideal for walking or cycling through the Thuringian Forest, which surrounds Elmenthal, or visiting the historic sites in the town centre.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will find these months particularly appealing. The spring and early autumn colours provide a beautiful backdrop for strolls through the countryside or enjoying a quiet evening at a local restaurant. You'll also find fewer crowds than in the height of summer, allowing for a more relaxed experience.

For solo travellers interested in hiking or cultural exploration, these periods are perfect. The trails are well-maintained, and the milder weather makes for enjoyable day trips to nearby castles or the city of Weimar, which is easily accessible from Elmenthal.
