Spirit Traveler Earthship with Meditation Room

Welcome to the Spirit Traveler Earthship in Northern New Mexico!

Nestled in New Mexico's high desert, the Spirit Traveler awaits your arrival. Whether you're looking for outdoor adventure or a much-deserved retreat, this home is it! Forty minutes to Taos Ski Valley, 35 min to Ojo Caliente (Hot Springs), 15 min to Taos and only 3 miles to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge.

Situated in the Greater World Community, this 600+ acres neighborhood is very quiet, private and peaceful. It's safe and people are friendly when met with a smile.

An Earthship, which Lonely Planet describes as "equal parts Gaudi masterpiece and Dr. Seuss whimsy", offers accommodations that are completely off-grid. Built from recycled materials, the home is powered by solar panels, rain and snow-collecting cisterns and a greenhouse for self-sufficiency.
Spirit Traveler provides a rustic, private and romantic setting with 14 ft vega ceilings, concrete floors and plenty of space to unwind and regenerate. I've provided as many amenities as possible given the solar power system recommendations (well, except for the Keurig. I snuck that one in there). This Global model features two "airlock" rooms at each end for the entrance. This allows entry w/o sacrificing the inner temperature. One of these rooms is also for yoga, meditation, prayer and inner reflection. Like most models, the front, south-facing room is a greenhouse featuring interesting plants such as Snake plant, Aloe Vera, Wandering Jew (Tradescantia), Oregano, Agave attenuata from La Jolla, a baby olive tree and a Plumeria. The living, dining room and kitchen are open making it easy to cook while visiting with your group or lending plenty of space to dance your worries away by way of a nice sound system. Guests will have a large, pull-out couch, chairs, stools and dining chairs; the dining table seats 4. The refrigerator and stove are specific for off-grid living but you don't need to sacrifice your inner chef. The kitchen is well-stocked with everything you need to prepare gourmet meals. Enjoy a solid night's sleep in a comfy queen bed. A large, custom-built closet resides at the back of the bedroom giving plenty of room for clothing and gear. All the rooms are bright, airy and uplifting. It's a peaceful experience and the stars are even visible from inside, waiting for you to partake in that "ah" moment.

Add'l House Rules:
No smoking at all inside the Earthship. It is 420 friendly outside. Cigarettes, cigars or others types of smoking are not allowed. If smoking has occurred, you may be charged up to $500.
- This property is not safe or suitable for children under 12 yrs old.
- No pets.
- No parties or events.
- No harming of wildlife.
- Quiet Hours 11 pm – 8 am.
- No unregistered guests or visitors allowed. The maximum property capacity is 4 people.
- Turn off devices and lights when not in use, especially coffee maker, TV, AVR receiver.
- Due to water harvesting which is very limited, use of the washing machine is not permitted.
- Water is extremely limited and valuable so please do not leave water running that you are not using.
- No outside shoes worn inside so bring slippers/sandals for inside use only. It can get very muddy/dirty.
- Use only plastic utensils on pots and pans since they’re “nonstick”.
- No hooking up RVs or cars to charge batteries.
- High winds are common. Make sure to close the screen door; don’t leave propped open if not using. There’s a large rock I keep behind the door so it doesn’t fly open; keep that rock there to help.
- Leave drain strainers in sinks and bathtub.
- Absolutely, no “flushable” wipes in toilet or feminine products. If you can tolerate “mellow yellow” (flush after every other #1), that’s appreciated. I threw my tp in the trash can after a number one but that’s up to you. I was told it keeps it from clogging up the septic system.
- Turn off lights when not in use. Do NOT forget to turn off outside lights – the community likes to enjoy the stars w/o the light pollution.
- Check-out is 11am.
- Leave the blind closed that is in front of the Begonia (first plant as you walk inside); it is sensitive to direct sun.
- No inside furniture taken outside.
- Do not disconnect the modem or router.
- Do not touch the solar/electrical devices. If there’s an issue please contact me.
- Please do not enter beyond the curtain to the left of the fridge; this is for the maid and handyman.
- If you want to walk around the yard, that’s cool. However, do not walk up the slope of the Earthship berm as well as do not walk on the roof. This is the foundation of the home and erosion would not be good for it.
- When the sun is shining, please leave the interior doors to the airlock rooms open for ventilation. I keep the blinds closest to the exterior doors closed. Also keep the blind in front of the Begonia closed during daylight.
- Parental monitoring outside is advised. There are many species here that I am still learning about.
- The Earthship community is a drone-free zone.
- Can't believe I need to add this one but I would prefer no urinating outside.
