Our family had a wonderful stay at the Mews House in Killiney, Ireland. Karen and Jonathan, the owners, are so wonderfully warm and gracious, and are happy to offer insights and advice for exploring nearby Dublin, Wicklow, or all of Ireland for that matter. They know everything there is to know and have exquisite taste in terms of the property, the must-see sights and restaurant recommendations. They make the experience very easy, which is hard to find when traveling. Their property is stunning. Secluded, with lots of trees and green grass, a long driveway, and very spacious. On the outside, you'll feel like 19th century royalty arriving at your weekend retreat, as you visit this historic property. You will enjoy strolling along the more than an acre of green grass spotting the occasional fox. And you will hear the church bells ring at noon. Our kids threw a football around the yard, and enjoyed swinging on the swings. It is the perfect place to disconnect & relax. You feel your shoulders drop on the drive in. On the inside, it is all brand new, modern and you'll feel like you're starring in a designer magazine. Karen is a designer and she spares no detail-- from the luxurious, comfortable linens, couches, to the works of art, books, decor and accents elegantly placed about. The ceilings are very high, the three bedrooms are big, and plenty of sunlight comes in through the windows which have terrific views of the property. The grey hardwood floors, and the red accent chairs against the clean white walls add another flair of modern elegance. The property is impeccably clean and had plenty of room for this family of four from Los Angeles. The only issue is when you stay at this property, you will not want to leave. You will want to cook dinners and entertain, which we did one night. Killiney is a beautiful location, 20-30 minutes outside of Dublin, a train stop a way from a Dalkey and some terrific shops and restaurants. Hiking up nearby Killiney Hill is a must, with its breathtaking views of the Irish Sea. Book dinner at DeVille's in Dalkey and have breakfast at the Corner Note Cafe. It is a truly special property. (If you're a dog lover, ask the owners to play with their fabulous dog, Hawkeye. He's special.) It is no wonder the neighborhood boasts the likes of Bono, the Edge and many other Irish celebrities, because it is one of the most gorgeous spots on the Emerald Isle. Highest recommendation.
