About this property
19th Century Provencal Bastide and Infinity pool
Our house is located at the head of a valley, facing south with views for miles towards The Massif des Maures and the coast. It sits in a tranquil position in 16 acres of its own land, yet is a short distance (1km) from one of the more beautiful villages in Provence. It has been lovingly and stylishly converted to a very high standard while still retaining its original Provençal features. There are high beamed ceilings and travertine floors throughout. The house benefits from a large open plan kitchen living room with a Lacanche style cooking range and open fire. The kitchen spills out through French doors to a large terrace with BBQ. Beyond the terrace is a large infinity pool with stunning views down the valley. There is Sky TV, DVD, wireless internet and ipod speakers. PLEASE NOTE **The house is served by a long drive up from the main road, it is un made up in parts so some guests may prefer accessing with a SUV or at least a car with reasonable ground clearance**

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this house. The location allows for visits to the coast, but there are also many local villages to explore. The communication with the owner and manager was excellent. The house has all that you need, and we were very grateful for the pool. There are many places in the village to eat and buy breakfast, but it is a drive rather than a walk. There are lots of local markets and vineyards to visit. We would recommend the house for those who want a peaceful setting with lots to do close by.
This grand house just outside bustling Cotignac, is a lovely, calm place to spend some quality time. Set in a quiet, forest valley, up a track from the local village. We had a relaxing time enjoying the views from the terrace and the pool. Also a great base to visit Gorges du Verdon, and local towns and street markets.
We have just enjoyed a wonderful week at this property which was perfect for our family. Virginia met us and was very helpful when we first arrived. We read the reviews and hired an SUV which was definitely a bonus for driving to the house. You can’t hear anything apart from nature when you are here. It took about 25 minutes to walk into Cotignac which is a beautiful/buzzy village, and where we enjoyed some nights out. We spent a number of evenings in the villa watching the sun set over the hills - completely magical. It took about an hour to the Verdon and a bit further if you want to get to the walking trails. We wanted to stay longer.

If you want secluded villa time this is for you. We loved the stone build and kitchen opening onto patio/ pool area.
We had a wonderful stay during July with our family of four. We loved the tranquility and to be in the middle of nature. The house is located in the vincinity of lovely villages while being away from the crowds. We spend our days in the large pool, exploring the paths and spotting deers and watching stars at night. Would recommend!
we had a wonderful week in John's house! The house is very charming and the location is just awesome. We enjoyed the tranquility and the uniqueness from the house! The infinity pool is sensational!
We defentitly want to come back for another wonderful vacation!

Amazing view
A lovely summerhouse in a unique location with a fantastic swimming pool. However, access to the house requires nearly a 4x4 vehicle due to the bumpy road. As for the house itself, a proper set of wine glasses would be appreciated. Air conditioning would also have been nice, as the nights are very hot.

Fantastic!!!
We spent a week in this fantastic house in June 2017 and we truly loved it. The house is very spacious and even though we were 5 people we had plenty of room. Nice pool, modern standard and a breathtaking view. It's a 20-30 minute walk to downtown Cotignac, but you need to be in good shape to walk back since it is a tough walk uphill. We recommend the house to anybody that want to stay in a nice relaxing atmosphere with easy access to Cotignac and the surroundings. Hans Osterman with family

Great secluded property with stunning views and pool
The property is situated up a windy track from the main road, but when you get to it, wow is it worth it! The infinity pool looks out over the surrounding countryside with no other properties in sight. The outdoor dining area is an ideal setting for long evening meals. The kitchen is well equipped and there is even Sky TV which was useful for the Lions tour!
Cotignac is either a 30 minute walk or a 10 minute drive away and is full of character. Don't forget to take a basket from the pantry to the Tuesday market. There are restaurants aplenty in the area and we didn't find a bad one. We also visited the spectacular Verdon Gorge, but go early as it does get busy.
We will be coming back I'm sure.

Fantastic location brilliant house
My family and I have just returned from a 2 week holiday at Johns fantastic house.....and we loved it!!! It was so peaceful, no neighbours, so the kids (9 and 7) could shout and scream all they wanted! A fantastic setting overlooking beautiful countryside. The house has everything what you need. Internally it's a fantastic old beamed house with plenty of space. Outside is brilliant, if you have kids like ours they loved it in the swimming pool, the table tennis, Jenga and the open space. Wherever you sit you are always close to the pool so you can watch the kids. You can walk into Cotignac, if you go the right way, it takes about 25 minutes. Or it's a short 10 min drive with loads of parking and never too busy. Cotignac is a must place to visit, the place is full of history. It's very french and the people are a delight, but booking restaurants is recommended as you will struggle to just turn up in the high season. The surrounding towns are all worth a visit.
If you want to get away from the day to day stress and strains of life then I would recommend this place

Don’t Stay Here if You’re American
This is not a good rental property for Americans if you are used to the basic simple comforts of a Hampton Inn. It is poorly represented on VRBO. We traveled with four couples to a wedding in Cotignac. Two of the couples left after the first night, but two of us could not find additional lodging (because there was a tractor convention in town) until the 4th night. We spent the first entire day of our trip, trying to find someplace else to stay. We have reached out to the manager or owner twice, and nobody will respond. List we made while there:
NOT a close walk to town. Dangerous walk.
Hazardous water conditions in house. Fearful of showering.
Poor decor. Uncomfortable and dreary.
Messiness everywhere.
Terrible mattresses.
Poor sheet and thread count
Hard pillows. No extra pillows
Tired loud fans.
No shampoo/conditioner
one bar of soap in the house.
You have to replace EVERYTHING you use.
1 thin poor quality towel per person. No extra towels.
No face cloths
No towels for the pool furniture
No umbrellas for the pool.
Unthoughtful landscaping
Outdoor cushions dirty and leaning on a tree. Didn’t bother to set them up. Don’t fit.
Thin cushions on outdoor furniture- super uncomfortable.
It looks like someone hastily left to rent it and didn’t have a cleaning crew come.
No lightbulbs. BYOB
Rats scurrying around at night.
Ultrasound rodent deterrent under bed.
You need a 4WD.
Pro:
Nice view
Nice exterior
Nice when you’re in the freezing pool if it’s very hot out.
The location and pool are stunning, however sadly that's where it ends. The shower upstairs was broken leaving 6 of us ( including an 85 year old and an 80 year old ) to share the ensuit. I asked the guardian Virginia 3 times if this could be fixed to met net with indifference and pathetic excuses for reasons it could not be fixed. In addition the property was not clean, I had to clean the kitchen, showers and the outside furniture. My son had to move beds as he woke up covered in ants on the first night. I appreciate the rural location would mean creepy crawlies but really, a bed covered in ants. Noone clears out the cupboards, so they are full of old pasta, sauces, tins of old food and mayonnaise in the fridge. There were 5 old bottles of suntancream by the sink and moldy cloths and old dirty soap bars. The decking around the pool is dangerous. Its wooden and rotten with nails sticking out. I asked if there were any parasols as the pool is very sunny all day to be told again by Virginia that people sit in the shade ( there was no shade all day) I emailed the owner John the day after we got there and so far have not had a response. The check in times are 4pm and check out is 10am. We did get in at 4ish but again this was begrudgingly, I had requested to get in as near to 4pm as I could as we had elderly relatives with us, the response was ' I'll see what I can do'. I was asked to leave by 9.30am when I queried this as it says 10am on the website, again begrudgingly I was told ' I can do 9.45' To quibble over 15 mins when you are paying a significant amount of money to stay is ridiculous. The route up to the house is very rugged, which if you were in a 4x4 would be fine, we aren't precious about our car, it got scratched and bashed about quite a bit, so beware if you are precious about your car. The most disappointing thing is the lack of apology, concern or care of the guardian Virginia. Her responses to my requests for the shower to be fixed were bordering on rude. She couldn't care less if you have a nice stay or not. The night before we were going , I got a text asking me to go at 9.30am when we had agreed on 9.45. My advice is do yourselves a favour and book somewhere that is cared for and not just benefitting from its location.
Schönes, absolut einsam gelegenes Haus, recht geschmackvolle, einfache Einrichtung.

Eigentlich kein Schlafraum.
The house is spacious with typical Provencal charm, it is nicely cool even on a hot day. We were 4 people (2 adults and 2 teenage kids) spending holidays there. The house was very well equipped, we found there everything we needed- dishwasher, washing machine, two big fridges, two coffee makers as well as the French press pots, sufficient amounts of pots, pans, cutleries and other dishes. There were also basic supplies-oil, salt, spices, dishwasher, and washing machine tablets. Tap water is not recommended for drinking, so we bought water barrels in the supermarket. The pool is big, very clean with a beautiful view and fresh water.
The location is absolutely stunning, I can not imagine a better place for the holiday house- there is total privacy, nature is untouched, and the view can not be more spectacular. We had a feeling that we are very far away from everything, however, we were 5 minutes driving from Cotignac.
The week we spent on John‘s property was very relaxing for all of us and we were captured by the beauty of the place. As regular visitors to Cotignac, we can say that there are not many properties with such a view and the qualities like this, despite the Cotignac and its surrounding is really extraordinary. We would return anytime.
At the end of a scenic adventurers street (no panic, my 80-year old father did it with his sedan car), there was the beautiful house waiting for us. The kitchen was well equipped and, most importantly, outside was an outstanding gas-operated BBQ-station. The pool with it´s wooden patio waited for a refreshing jump. Right behind the terrace was a great hiking trail leading into the village (30 minutes walk). We enjoyed our stay very much and will come again!
