The Folly Hotel

"The staff were wonderful, nothing was too much for them and once I explained the first bedroom I had the first night was too small, as in the bathroom for a large gentleman like myself and the shower too small for me, they changed my room, I still struggled with a single bed, so I would ask for a double bed next time, also be aware, there is a none refundable policy in place, so if did want to cancel in plenty of time, you won't get any money back, just a thought, but again, staff were fantastic and very friendly"

"We called the property to check if it would be ok to arrive at 10pm - after the stated check-in hours. We were told this would be fine. On arriving at 10pm, we were told “we were cutting it fine” and were given the key to the room. Not exactly a warm welcome. The biggest problem is that it is basically a pub and function room with some rooms stuck on top. There is no door separating the function room downstairs for the first floor corridor the rooms are on. There was a party well underway when we arrived. It was almost impossible to watch television, let alone get any sleep. The music went on until midnight but the noise from partygoers continued until the small hours. We had banked on at least getting a night’s sleep for our £130 before an early morning departure and 8 hour drive south. The mattress was poor quality and the divan topped with a plywood repair job - far from comfortable. The tea cups had not been properly washed after the last guests. I wrote to the manager afterwards to suggest they let guests know if they have a party on, so they can decide whether to look elsewhere. Even better, put a couple of doors in so it doesn’t feel you’re attending the party downstairs. No response."

"The experience of staying at Carberry is what this place is all about. The house is beautiful and the staff is so The house is beautiful, and the staff is so accommodating. The WiFi is weak and the none suite rooms are very small, but the experience is what this place is all about. The grounds of the estate are beautiful and worth exploring from the gardens to the variety of trees make sure to take advantage of the trails around the property."

Maitlandfield House Hotel

4/10 Poor

"My reaction on arriving was that the building was uninhabited. Sadly it was the hotel that I had booked, and looked more like a hostel for the homeless. To say it had seen better days would be very kind. The people on check-in were nice enough. The linen and towels clean. However, if I had arrived early enough in the day I wouldn't have stayed and I would have got my money back."
