The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Sadly, the breakfast was disappointing. The best part is the beautiful setting

The hotel is in a lovely setting and has the potential to be great but the shower hose spurted water everywhere and it was impossible to turn the bath taps so had to fill the bath with the spurting shower. The decoration in the room was tired. It needs investment to get it up to scratch.
On a plus point, the room was very clean, the food was very good, the restaurant very nice and the staff were lovely.

Great setting, all staff very pleasant, the Restaurant was rustic and food good, table laid and clean although a little sticky. Room spacious and clean although entrance hall to Cottage area a bit worn. I would definitely visit again.
Really nice looking property with easy parking. Food was excellent and location was out of the way quiet but still easy to get to.
Some negatives was that the matteress was old and soft so you rolled toward the center and one of the receptionists had limited people skills. No conversation loke 'good morning, how was your stay.... anything and one of the advertised benefits of that roaring fire was not kept alight so any though of having a drink after dinner infront of it ..you can forget. Consideringvwe were there when it was snowing what a missed opportunity. Rest of the team were good.
Would i go back.... no, i dont think so as the beds so bad, foods pricy ( but amazing) and the lounge a bit unwelcoming without that roaring fire.
Good sized room and comfy bed, all clean and enjoyed the tea/coffee making facilities. The staff were very helpful and friendly, good evening meal and breakfast at sensible prices.
Room was spacious and comfortable.
Let down by poor Wi-Fi coverage in room.
Staff were pleasant and friendly.
Nice quiet location next to the river.

Clean tidy room, if somewhat out dated furniture, but considering very traditional riverside hotel quite well appointed. Always cold rooms (my 2nd stay), as expected with a listed building, no double glazing. Comfy bed and lovely bathroom & shower. Breakfast very mediocre, food left in water logged chafing dishes without burners. Really helpful staff, lovely warm greeting on arrival at reception. Average to good for a couple of business nights, would I pay the price personally, probably not.

We stayed for one night and was in the cottage rooms, which needs a revamp. The rooms look tired and there was a constant dripping sound! It really didnt feel like a 4 star hotel. On the plus side the staff were very helpful and friendly, we never had food so cant comment on that!
If we stayed again we'd want to stay in the main hotel.

Stayed 1 night for wedding, food was amazing at the wedding, the room we stayed in is outdated but was clean and comfortable, the cottage rooms are conveniently located short walk away.
The staff were amazing and very helpful, even helped me look for my wife’s phone when she misplaced it
overall really pleased with our overnight stay
Stayed for just one night but the staff were SO nice and the room was excellent - quiet, comfy bed etc. Breakfast was good and check in/out quick and easy. Very highly recommended.
Historically very interesting hotel, friendly staff, good food. My only criticism is that the cottage we stayed in definitely needed some love!

Lovely hotel venue and grounds. Have stayed previously and room was excellent. Unfortunately this time was in one of cottage rooms which felt very dated and was in need of some attention.

Ok hotel
Ok stay. Too hot as no air con in room. Decor a bit tired. Staff excellent and good food.
We had a fantastic stay as normal, excellent evening meal, excellent breakfast, excellent Stocker Room with views to the River Trent, it was quiet and peaceful in a beautiful location, everything we required for our wedding anniversary stay, I look forward to our next stay.

Place to stay near the arboretum
It is a lovely place to stay the hotel part is in a beautiful setting right on the river Trent the only thing that lets it down is the outside of the cottages accommodation. It is the need of some tlc paint work wood work needs looking at. The inside of the cottages are fine beds are comfy shower is good. Food in the hotel is good, breakfasts are very good help yourself. All said I would stay again.
Beautiful setting right on the river Trent lovey old build been restored staff and food are great if in the area of donnington it’s a must stay location

I had a - 15 - cottages room, which considering I have stayed in this hotel many times and only in the house was poor. For the money and all I was disappointed. Room was musky, bed clean but poor mixed matches furniture, dodgy door, slippy entrance, and all the usually for an old building. 5/10. But I had had house rooms before 10/10! Breakfast was 8/10
Service was lovley however the taps even cold gave tepid / warm water. No water in the room and a promise of some to be brought over which wasn’t :-(
Lovely stay, cottage room was outstanding as was the setting and main hotel. Nice beer in the bar and superb breakfast

Stayed two nights. Cottages are clean and comfortable inside but exterior needs some TLC. Grounds are lovely as is being next to the river. Staff very friendly and food good. Would definitely stay again.
